Fabia VRS vs Golf GTI Mk.4 vs Civic Type R

Hey there,

This is my first post here so, hello!

I've been looking to get my hands on an unmodified 2004/2005 Fabia VRS with the impression that it's superior in performance to the mk4 gti (the 150 and the 180 bhp versions). Would I be right? How would it compare to the ep3 Civic Type R? Does it really require remapping to compete?

One other thing... I know the official 0-60 for the Furby is 9.5 but I've heard that the actual time is somewhere in the region of 7.5/8.2. Whats the story there?

Cheers,
V

I'd say it quicker than the base GTI, but the Anniversary (180) would be a touch quicker.

Re: Fabia VRS vs Golf GTI Mk.4 vs Civic Type R

it won't be quicker than any of them as standard, remapped it will be quicker than the 150 1.8t but maybe not the 180 and wouldn't stand a chance against the civic.

Re: Fabia VRS vs Golf GTI Mk.4 vs Civic Type R

Well a remapped one to 180 bhp does 7 / low 7's to 60 mph. So id say a normal one would do mid 8's

I also timed my 0 -100 and its 18s and the standard is 23s

This is the forum where diesel rules ... 0-60mph times mean nothing in REAL life, try a cross country run of about 20 miles in these cars and I would put money on you preferring the vRS over the other 2.
I have a Mk4 GTTDI 130 remapped to 180bhp, in my opinion THAT would be the motor to go for not the mk4 GTI.
Get a vRS remapped to 180bhp and it will FLY as it's so much lighter than the Golf ... and of course the Golf handles like a pig on stilts.

If you want a proper review have a look at Fabia-vrs.com - Home Page and go to the reviews section, has all the stats and figures there

i suggest you take a look on here Parker's for some more accurate data

and no 0-60 doesn't mean everything but it does mean quite a lot, a fabia isn't as quick on the move as it feels.

a fabia vRS weighs 1315Kg and the PD150 golf weighs 1388Kg

73Kg is less than one adult passenger

Wrong

A VRS weighs around 1115kg if i recall, that was weighed on a weigh bridge by another member if anyone would like to confirm this. As Skoda calculated it with a couple of passengers

Well... isn't that what most car manufacturers do?

2 or 3 passengers, with a full tank and some luggage?

Are they allowed to quote the kerb weight with passengers? Surely the kerb weight is the kerb weight is the kerb weight?

It's like me measuring the performance with only 3 wheels on the car!

Peugeot do it too

Usually fully laden , helps reduce insurance groups etc (due to slower 0-60mph)

They test with the weight yes, but the listed kerb weight MUST be the car on it's own or it could cause all sorts of problems for people who are trying to calculate what they can safely tow.

Nope

I read on here a few people weighed there VRS's on a weighbridge at just over 1100kg's

I'll try and find the thread

Re: Fabia VRS vs Golf GTI Mk.4 vs Civic Type R

Cheers for replying so quick! I've driven the Golf and wasn't impressed tbh. It was wallowy and lackluster. Plus, I like the sleeper-esque feel to the Fabia.

I've earmarked 7500 to get one (2005 hopefully) and I doubt I'd get a nicer Golf for that money.

Thanks for the help... sorry about the worms!

I don't know what Skoda state as the weight (wet or dry) for the Fabia, so that means nothing to me. I am simply pointing out that the stated weight is without passengers.

It's also worth remembering that weighbridges are designed to weigh lorrys/heavy machinery and are can easily over/under read by quite a lot.

Re: Fabia VRS vs Golf GTI Mk.4 vs Civic Type R

but if you did the same with the golf or any other car in fact you would get the same thing.

i think the kerb wieght of a car is with full fluids and as gary said that was with an empty tank which would be worth at least 50-60Kg
