Re: Fuel Cap Prob!

need a cable tie -metal type is best - anything to hold the two plastic parts together... Open up drivers side rear light carpet stuff and you will see it has popped out of place. Be resourceful and find something to fix them together.

OR... take it back to dealer and they will do it for you... With a gose pipe connector thingy...

Re: Fuel Cap Prob!

The spring loaded cable pops out of the flap catch (ohhh!!).

I think Sonic1980 means fix it with a jubilee clip.

Re: Fuel Cap Prob!

Open your boot, undo the carpet on the right hand side of the boot.

You will see the cable that curls round to the filler cap mech.

Just push this back into the socket, then blob a bit of hot glue or something over it so it doesn't pop out again.

It's a pain in the *** - I've been ultra gentle with mine since it went and it's been fine - just try to swing on it a bit less!

Re: Fuel Cap Prob!

This is a common problem which the dealers fix with some sort of adhesive but I think the cable tie suggestion sounds better.

Probably caused by pressure on the catch from the petrol pump nozzle when filling up. Try to park with the petrol pump on the same side as the filler cap or at least avoid stretching the hose across the back of the car as this will apply pressure to the catch.

Re: Fuel Cap Prob!

Could someone please advise how to remove the carpet inside the boot on the right where the filler cap is located because I've just looked at mine and it's not immediately obvious how I should proceed. I don't want to damage the carpet so would appreciate step by step instructions if poss.
Thanks

Re: Fuel Cap Prob!

Just pull it out from behind the plastic trim which goes around the area behind the taillights. It should pop out from behind the trim with some persuasion. Then a hand can be put in, and re-clip the fuel filler cap cable into position.

Re: Fuel Cap Prob!

The fuel cap problem is caused by excessive pressure on the mechanism when filling the tank. Avoid stretching the hose from the pump across the car when filling up, better to park with the filler cap on the same side as the pump.

Hope I do not appear to be telling you "how to suck eggs", but I speak from experience.

Re: Fuel Cap Prob!

Just came across this thread - Thanks to everyone who has posted.

What are you meant ti secure the cable with? Can electrical tape be used?

Is so what portion of the picture above should you tie up?

In Stu's 2nd piccie, a small jubilee clip is used to reinforce the joint. So it shouldn't pop out again.

Re: Fuel Cap Prob!

As per VeeKar and mw2655 - found this problem after filling up the car today and was thinking a long trip to Glasgow was in order for fixing at the dealers. Fortunatly; BRISKODA forums, a quick search and a 1 minute faff around the boot as described above got this sorted.

Thanks to all for the advice - BRISKODA proves it's usefulness again

Re: Fuel Cap Prob!

I've just used this thread too. I can't believe how many common fault these fabias have! If only I could fix my damned leaky doors!!

If anyone's struggling it's dead easy to just pop off the top two holders for the carpet, feel around the furtherest part of the car near the rear light and you'll find a kind of cable thing... this'll be attached to a spring, which will have fallen out of place. Just pop that back in and job done. if it comes out again I'll get some super glue to it!!

Re: Fuel Cap Prob!

Thought I would let you know I broke the black plastic end piece when trying to fix mine (the one the cable slides in) skoda sell this part for 26p inc vat It was difficult to fit the cable into the new one with the spring forcing it away all the time so I used pipe cleaners to hold the spring 'shut' and it was then easy.
