| I'm in love with this car!, puts a big on my face every time I get in. Its got the power, economy, seems very well built, and without sounding too boring, is very practicalGot a few questions since I bought the car privately... 1). I haven't found a security code for the audio system yet. Presumably I need some sort of code to enter for whenever the battery is disconnected?!? 2). I've noticed in the manual that there's some sort of keyfob code thingy that came with the original keys (I believe). Is this a big deal if I don't have it? 3). Any ideas on upgrading the front speakers? Can the head unit cope with this or is a case of replacing that as well? I actually think the standard audio isn't bad at all, well compared to the 206 that is ![]() I'm sure they'll be loads more posts in the future. Cheers chaps (and ladies of course)! |

| 1) Shouldnt do if the headunit is returned to the same car, if you need it for other reasons your delaer can get it for you. 2) Only if you want to add keys or your keys stop working, but again this information can be got by Skoda. 3) Have a search, there is even a how to on it. Welcome aboard ![]()

| Good to hear you're enjoying the car. The radio key code is often put in the plastic fob with the other codes. Not having them can be a pain if you have the car serviced outside the dealer network as certain jobs need them - mainly those to do with the engine management and immobiliser. If you are having the car serviced inside the dealer network it shouldn't be a problem as they can get the codes from Skoda UK on weekdays. Be aware if you're having work done at weekends it's worth flagging up that you don't have the codes so they can try to get them in advance. The radio will retain its code as long as it's not removed from the car, even if the battery is disconnect. Or so I'm told, can't say I ever tried to prove it. It may be worth giving Skoda Customer Services a call to see if they can help you, or seeing how friendly your local dealer is. I'll leave the speakers to the ICE experts here - well outside my field! Enjoy the car!

| Cheers for all the replies guys. I'll have to look at acquainting myself with the local Skoda dealer (Newbury). Is it adivsable to keep the car serviced at Skoda outside the warranty period?? I have to say £70/hour labour costs seems a lot, although I have been out of the dealership loop for a longtime . Anybody know of any independent specialists in Hampshire?![]() Cheers. |

| No reason to stick with Skoda dealers (even within warranty period). It would probably be worth while looking for a diesel specialist in your area. |

| Ive had the battery disconnected several times and the stereo has never asked me for a code. IIRC the code is stored in the cars ECU not in the stereo.

I'm going to put a sub and amp in soon for a bit more bass, but i'm going to leave the front speakers as they are. They're more than capable. Stu

| I agree with above comments about the head unit mine is a kenwood and by no means top of range, actually just changed so i could have a cd but the difference in souns wow. keep wondering if i should get extra speakers fitted to back but there again hardly anyone but me in it so not sure if it make that much difference. regarding keys I have no idea what the code thing is for had to get another key for mine and the garage sorted it (through skoda garage) without knowing code. however mine is very basic 1.4 mpi 2001 model. Also found out later they may only come with one key but i insisted on the garage getting me another. |

| The ecu and stereo are matched up. If you disconnect the power to the stereo it will usually pop up with a SAFE message next time it's turned on to indicate it's passed the check. If not then you need a code from Skoda. Standard speakers are OK, it's the power amps in the stereo that suck a bit. I borrowed a £400 Alpine from a friend for a few weeks and the improvement in SQ was huge with the standard speakers. The controls on the Alpine were horrid however so I'm went back to the Fisher-Price big button stereo.

| No , they come with two. I have a 2000 1.4 MPI and got 2 flick keys with it , so you were right to ask for the 2.
