Default just broke my fabia!

was having a bit of horseplay on the way home with an r32.

needless to say that on the motorway sitting in sixth, the power just drained away from the car!

got off into a 30 zone and put it into third and brought it up to where the turbo should be and their was just nothing!

its not reeky so the turbo must be fine, im guessing its reverted back to diagnostic mode because my speedy motorway antics have been the the straw that broke its back?!

there was a weird wooshy noise (vortexty type whistle) through the week. (not the turbo whistling) and i guessed it was nothing as i only noticed with the window down....now im thinking maybe it was the start of one of the air pipes loosening??

who knows, only 7000 miles on clock so back to ingrams skoda on monday, woo!

It could be one of the boost pipes blown off, that is not uncommon.

Might simply have gone into limp mode, have you restarted it again to see if it is ok now.

Sounds like it overboosted and went into limp home, a quick key off and on whilst moving would have had you back up and running again.

The "wooshy" noisy sounds more like a hose has released ....

i was thinking a hose had gone, i turned it off and on, and its still no better i think.

ill have a look tomorrow morning before i give them the call though.

it was topped out in 6th when it happened, so i suppose overboosting isnt totally ruled out.

Isn't there also a "max revs exceeded - warranty void" message that gets logged too if you max the car in 6th? I know one of the Octy chaps fell foul of this and discovered it with VAG-COM before his car went into the dealer!

It's something I might be inclined to check

When you say 'topped out', are we actually talking about past 4k in 6th?

I've never got that warning but I may have exceeded 4k rpm in 6th

Pretty sure I was near the start of the red actually

If turning off/back on the engine doesn't sort it, it's not the kind of limp mode I get. I had it again this morning as it still leaks a bit of boost - so I know how it feels to have no power - pull off road, turn off, turn back on, drive off

If the pipe has come off or something, this will go straight back into limp mode though so worth a quick scan

hmm, im not sure where i was rev wise, but i know the car had no more mph to give me, so it would be handy to know where in the rev range that happens in sixth before i take it to them?

the good news is its working again!....

i think im almost certainly being paranoid when i say its running slightly rough,

but the service centre on the phone said if it happens again just to bring it in!

apparently the blades in the turbo stick open sometimes.

More like the turbo cannot spoil anymore. And if it has no more MPH left in it, and your still pushing, it's only a matter of time before something gives.

I had a pipe blow off on my old mondeo tdci 130 (co. car) and got the AA out as I didn't know what it was at the time. The mechanic fixed it and added a little talcum powder to the seal as he said that they get a little greasy and come off too easily. never happened again and boy did I thrash that car.

those hoses just usually split , very common fault , loads of black soot out the back the first time you boot it after the new hose is fitted
