oh dear, biggest can of worms ever.

well a standard fabia keeps with a civic type r, a remapped one beats a imprezza WRX and sti so i imagine a big turbo higher power one must be as quick as an evo FQ400/lambo's and nearly keep with an enzo, but thats in my humble opinion of course

A standard 130BHP vRS keep up with a 197BHP Honda CTR? A remapped (well, re-everythinged) Furby with a WRX?

Uhhhmmmmmm.......am a junior petrol head (OK, diesel) but find that quite an extraordinary claim.....have I been missing something?

As a comparison on a Golf( similiar weight?) with a hybrid turbo 221bhp i did a 0-100 indicated speedo run with some wheel spin in the dry 14.5 seconds. True speed at 100mph is 98mph according to sat nav. I just hope my new octy II vRS 2.0 tfsi will be as fast

Remap in itself is not quite meaningless but if you dont sort out the rest of the car to be able to use the power, it still won't be that quick

Handling needs sorting
Quaife or Peloquin ATB helps LOADS
A car with ESP will not cut the power all the time, ASR is a royal and utter pain in the backside on the standard car, let alone with a remap.. I guess it could be tweaked a bit.
Brakes, well it's worth doing something about those if you are going to drive it hard rather than use the power for fun every once in a while.

It is still a derv - it will struggle to put the power down in the first 2 gears, 1st is virtually useless, 2nd is a bit useable, 3rd depends on road conditions, in case you are booting it. If you control the throttle you can get away reasonably quick, but the main difference is that it pulls hard to redline.

What cars will it 'beat' - frankly I don't care - it is more fun to drive, and it gets to NSL nice and quick. Will it be 'beaten' by a lot of cars on the road - yes. Will it 'beat' a lot of other cars on the road - yes. It becomes a warmer hatch then before, but the handling & power combined makes it a lot more fun to drive when you have a moment where you can play safely

Quick enough to surprise expensive stuff on the road, but you don't become the fastest car on the road due to a new turbo and some mapping.

you forgot thaty if you add the PD160 intake you can then make the jump to lightspeed.

why does everyone think you need to remap a car to go faster.. some decent suspension and a driving course will give far more benefit.

That's why I posted what I posted

IMHO getting the suspension sorted out, brakes too, and if you are looking for putting the power down, the Quaife/Peloquin type thing, is vastly more useful

The standard vRS could do with being a tad quicker though to keep up with much of the other stuff on the road these days. When you're squirting round town and round twisty B roads it's fine (suspension aside - I'll get to that) but on the open road it needs a little more poke which a remap provides.

In terms of handling, a RARB is a must -end of. It corrects much of the nasty understeer, although initial turn in could still do with being a bit more snappy which is where decent springs and dampers come in I imagine (although you can only do so much with a heavy engine up front).
Then of course there's the pitching and diving under braking and acceleration which stiffer and slightly lower suspension would help too. Decent bushes are a must also as the standard voided ones are simply not fit for purpose - even Skoda admit that (the tech guys at the dealers I've spoken to). Wandering, creaking, uneven tyre wear...you name it. If you're going to uprate the brakes I'd say you HAVE to fit Cupra bushes beforehand so it doesn't squirm all over the place the next time you stomp on those fat 312's.

But for the drag racing nutters amongst us, slapping an FMIC, hybrid blower, decent intake and fat greasy remap on it would give enough grunt so you can play with the big boys, albeit with noticably more lag I'd guess.

Then you're into the realms of NOS and LPG......where is Devonutopia when you need him.

brakes are 312, with fast road pads, handling mods are jabba ARb and V1 coilovers when they arrive.

The car will have a peloquin in the next few months, just need one for my spare gearbox.
the asr is always switched off, i prefer my own human powered anti wheel spin brain.

I under stand its still a derv but still with 210-230bhp and around 340lbft its got to shift, no?

I dont drive like a tool, i tend to just drive fast when the conditions are suitable.

Thing is it hasnt cost me that much to get where i am now, next step will be injectors which again doesnt look that costly. The most expensive part so far has been the Forge fmic @ £610. I never set out to make it the quickest thing on the road, there will always be someone whos faster no matter what car you drive, i just wanted to have a little fun.

Doing all the mods myself i actually enjoy the modding part just as much as the driving part.

Default Re: Just how fast is a Hybrid fabia????

Over the (many) years I have owned and modified a lot of cars. Sometimes it was just to replace the Cat or chip (Clio 16V) sometimes it was to tweak the turbo (Uno II and Scoobies) and sometimes it was to have the head done, the twin carbs uprated, the Air filters K & N’d, the cams done, exhaust uprated, suspension was fully sorted, brakes uprated and everything internal that needed polishing was polished (this was all done to my 130TC). The outcome was a lot more power at the wheels on a reliable rolling road. I then guessed how quick my car should have been compared to a vehicle of similar power/weight. In a straight line it never seemed to work out like I thought it should.

I came to the conclusion that a 200bhp standard sporting car always seems to be quicker than a 200bhp modified car of similar weight. I do believe the manufactures know what they are doing and make better generic maps on the whole. Of course I would like to remap my car (250bhp and nearly 500n/m is available) but would it be as quick as say a 250bhp standard diesel that was the same weight, on the whole I doubt it

It is only designed with a certain amount of power etc in mind, and the 'standard' vRS Fabia Mk1 is a compromise towards way too soft. Only with a fair bit of work done to it does it handle reasonably ok.

The Mk2 Octy appears to have much better stuff fitted 'off factory' and you can tell

Erm, well as fast as a Focus ST remapped with a Miltek, circa 250 bhp. Power to wieght, and drivers plays a big part obviously. Traction without an LSD is poor, very poor indeed. Im looking forward to some warmer dry nights so I can use the 888's and see what it goes like then. As it is at the moment, my mate in his 860 kg 140 bhp polo gti can stay with me, sometimes even get away from me off the line. Mid range though, say from 30 mph, I anhialate him for instance. Horses for courses and the fabia will never be a 0-60 tool, not with 350 ft lbs at 1500 rpm in temps of 5 degrees anyway.

Obviously it will never ever be quicker than a type r

PS - I have seen v max of 145 on the gps, still pulling, but ran out of road (runway), and as a comparison for myself, not a scientific measurement, I have seen 0-60 on my g tech meter on the stretch of runway I always use of 6.5 seconds. Previous best was 7.1.
