I guess it would depend on the engine mate - size and fuel type?

You think you are worried about MPG? I have a brand New fabia 1 2.2 Petrol (60) read below.

I have today been to Irvine nr Glasgow and back. I filled it to the brim with Shell fuel. I did 154 miles and have just refueled to the same level at the same garage same pump. It took 25.26 lires which works out at about 27mpg!. the majority of the journey there and back was by Motorway at a 58mph or slightly less or country roads at about 40mph. for a vehicle having done only about 2800 mls I feel that this consumption figure is unacceptable.

I contacted the VCA about their consumption figures they claim that the
figures were supplied to them by Skoda. If this is the case then I am afraid some misleading advertising is afoot here.

Any comments anybody. Oh by the way the drivers seat is having to be replaced due to severe wear on the fabric. No! I dont wear sandpaper!

I take it you mean a fabia 2 1.2 not a fabia 1 2.2???

Could just be a slow engine to bed in...... Get it checked out by your local dealer under warranty.

Cheers

Dave.

Only 28mpg? That is unacceptable. I'd be having a word with the dealer where you got it. If you've spent your money on a brand new car you should get exactly what the damn brochure promises!

My vRS' trip computer usually says I'm getting high 50mpgs driving at 60ish along country a and b roads. But when spiritmonitor.de works my mpg out I'm currently on an average of 50mpg (See my sig), which when I look at other's spiritmonitor.de sigs is not to bad!

As a point my father's Astra SRi gets 40mpg according to the computer and spiritmonitor.de works it out at 35mpg, so still not bad!

Hi, not posted before joined ages ago when I had a problem with my old car. I think there must be a problem with the 60 bhp engine. I've just bought a level 2 1.2 12v, so far after 2 tanks brim to brim method with air con on constantly have managed 41.9 and 42.3 mpg respectivly. car has just done over 3000 miles, this included a 100 mile motorway trip yesterday at between 60 and 70 mph.

What do you think you might have achieved with no aircon on. I take it ordinary unleaded?

Just Morrisons standard unleaded. Not sure what could be done with no aircon - possibly 45 mpg. Will have to try a tank with no aircon and also using super unleaded and see if there is any difference. Could the poor mpg be because the 6v is more stressed than the 12v?

Egad, I've just posted elsewhere, I've a 1.4 MPI 8v and that just did 53MPG on a long motorway journey avg about 65 MPH.
Even stuck in traffic going to work, where my avg speed over 25 miles works out at 12mph (I know, depressing), I still get mid to high 30's unless I'm sat in the jam for a couple of hours.
The MPG you're getting sounds very wrong indeed.

I've got a furbie vrs and I get on average 53.5mpg on motorways (36mpg with the aircon on) and 45mpg on urban. But I have also noticed that since I switched to BP ultimate diesel I get on average 70 - 100 more miles out of a tank and it only costs an extra £5 to fill up.

what??? It takes you two hours to do 25 miles??????
OMG!!! I would buy a bike for 12 miles in two hours!!!!
Or is this the Skoda trip computer telling the usual lies????

Nope, alas not.
A "good" day is about 1hr 15 mins, the "record" to get to work is 3 hours, I sadly, do not jest.

I can get down to Staffs, (80 mile jounrey), make a brew and have me feet up in the same time as it takes me to get to work, how mad is that?

Drive it on a rolling road in a labratory and you will!

For the life of me I cannot understand why people expect to get the published figures when there are so many things in real life that affect what mpg you will get...

weather
traffic levels
driving style
other people's driving
hills
traffic lights
roundabouts

And thats just for starters!

The figures they produce are just so you can compare car against another or one engine against another - by all means use them as targets but don't expect to get them unless you are very lucky...

Also I suspect that the fact you have a heavy car/small engine won't help - that's one thing the labratory tests can't take into account just using a rolling road... this trend for heavy small cars with small engines is giving otherwise decent cars a bad name...

(PS Next time get the diesel! )

When i calculted the 27mpg it was on a motorway calm dry day at 50-58mph non stop. Then on a 40mph road non stop.

People have right to expect as you say what they pay for. "Misleading Advertising"!

My petrol 16v AUB gets 360 miles on a tank of Shell, but last night broke 500 miles on Esso! The computer said 47.3 average, with me doing my best to stay on as little throttle as possible and keep at 70 mph.

Now the weird bit. I filled up last night with the light on and 40 miles left until dry and the tank took, wait for it 55 litres! I thought these things only had a 45 litre tank? So either the specs are wrong for a Fabia or Esso are pulling a fast one. It took £62 to fill the tank!

This is now the third time the tank has broken 50 litres. Any thoughts?

27 mpg at that speed is a fault on the car - take it back and insist they do something about it.

As I said before those figures are produced to compare cars, but you shouldn't be that far out!

i'm not sure how you're getting more than 45 litres in a 45 litre tank

you're not using the "venectomy"/expansion tank (ie pressing the little nipple inside the filler, ust on the right whilst filling) as i understood it was ok to do this with a diesel to get a bit more fuel in but shouldn't be done on a petrol..

i can't remember the exact reasons, probably the expansion in hot weather.

cheers matt

I don't know why it's happening either!
I've just checked out the ventectomy and I'm wondering if the Esso nozzles are pushing in the nipple. The Shell ones don't seem to.

I'll check it out the next time I fill up. I do like getting 500 miles to a tank but not if it means that I'm likely to blow up!

Thanks guys.
