Got my Scooby (saloon) done and that was about 200 quid I think. That was done with Securefix window film which makes it very difficult to break in from the outside, but you're still able to break out if you're in an accident. Tinting was 35% on the sides and 20% on the read window, but the car had black leather in it anyway so that made it look darker than it was

Tinter on here was charging £150 recently here.

I was about to get it done, but then I found out that my insurance company (Elephant) wouldn't touch me with a bargepole if I had it done. So make sure you check first! I'll probably have mine done after I change insurance company in August

I'm sure I read a special edition fabia estate is being produced.

One of the points they made about it was it had 'privacy glass' as a feature.

Will try and find it and see if it is more than just a minor tint exercise

Re: Privacy glass

I have been searching, honest! (It's how I came across this thread)

Most of the references are recommendations in the North or the South.I was sure there was a mobile tinter midlands area and I thought that might be the link.

Guessing from what people have said, looking at about £150.Just want the rear windows done.

That will just be what happens when something is taken apart and put back together , its never the same! I think thats why a lot of people live with small rattles , just in case any attempt at a fix produces a gigantic one!

Re: Privacy glass

Re the % ratings....you can have the rear windows (back and sides) as dark as you like, but the front side windows and windscreen, must allow 70 % of the light through. The standard window tinting on most bog standard cars is about 75 %, so you basically can't have it much darker than this.
With regards to checking it, most reputable installers will be aware of the legal requirements, and should only supply you with the legal stuff, but not many MOT garages have the kit for checking, so some unlucky punters just take it off .
The kit that we use for checking it is called a TINTMAN, and retails for about £500, but if you do get stopped, you may get away with a vehicle defect form depending on where you live, otherwise it is a £30 non endorsable ticket !!!!!

Re: Privacy glass

If i remember right (in scotland anyway) 70-50% is a warning 50-30% is a £30 fine and 30% or less is 3 points + £60 fine

Look in your yellow pages for window tinters

Re: Privacy glass

The only legislation I have seen applies to the front windows. Back windows could be painted with hammerite if you want

Mine are pretty bleeding dark but still able to see out of them, I wouldn't touch the front though as thats asking for trouble and to be honest I prefer the high visibility

Great for kids in the back, my 3 year old no longer moans she can't see Noddy because of sun on the screen. Keeps the car cooler and drops light levels from car's behind you to less dazzling levels

I'd say get it done, it's well worth the money
