Spare Key Blues! :-(

Hi.

My 2001 (Y plate) fabia elegance (Immobilisor + Alarm) only came with the flippy out 3 buttons key. I would like a spare becuase knowing me, I'll lock the key in the boot one day.

I phoned my local dealer.. £80 with no remote buttons, that's fine.. A friend in the motor trade estimated £35 but he's ignoring me now..

Skoda, again.. same dealer as before.. a week later, £120 (hmmmm)... that's for the 3 button remote key, that, apparently.. is the onlyy one I can use?!?!?!?!

another private firm.. £35 but won't start the car (just the blade, basically)..

Phoned the skoda help line today, enquiering if I can actually buy a normal key, that won't start the car but will open it.. and then, at a later date buy the "remote central locking fob" seperatly to start the car too?

They told me yes,.. and that the fob was £35 unprogrammed... now I'm really confused?? Does the fabia talk to the key, or the remote fob?.. obviusly when you have the 3 button remote key these are one and the same... but is it possible to buy a key and transponding remote fob seperatly? and togther they will start the car.. or is it the case that the remote fob will just open the car much like the key, but remotley, but that you still won't be able to turn it over?

Any replies appreciated becuase it seems my fabia is on the cusp between some kinda of security system upgrade during production?? Rolling codes or something.. I dunno.. I just wanna spare for under £100 :-(

Rob.

Re: Spare Key Blues! :-(

Plenty of info if you search. Can be programmed with VAG-Com by someone who has it. Key fobs on eBay, make sure you get the right frequency. Blades on eBay for sub £10 cut to a digital image of your original.

Re: Spare Key Blues! :-(

You could buy a normal plain non remote key and have it programmed for a spare. However you would have to have both keys programmed at the same time.
