Default That Stereo

Is the standard fit stereo on the vRS any good or is it it worth
Changing the speakers? I believe there are only 4 in the Fabia
When other manufactures are going for at least 6 or 8, if the
Standard setup isn’t bad I will leave well alone when I get it.
I have been spoilt in the 172 as the sound was very good
With loads of solid Bass! unfortunatly some of it was from the
suspension.

Probably isnt worth changing the speakers without changing the headunit, because I believe the quality of the speakers surpasses the quality of the headunit - that is, people have changed the headunit / amped the standard speakers and noted a big improvement, however, I doubt that changing the speakers on the standard headunit would make it any better, and it may make it worse, as the speakers will simply highlight the flaws of the standard unit even better.

Erm.... most manufacturers when they say 6 or 8 speakers, they really include tweeters in that... and on that basis, the Fabia has an 8-speaker system.

Its not too bad for a standard system - i.e. acceptable. I have a pretty good sound system in my house, and its been good enough for me to put up with for the last year or so, and I listen to a lot of dance music. It can go quite loud considering its not that powerful, however, theres not much bass there and you'll find yourself turning the bass up I dare say...

Eventually, I am probably going to replace either the standard unit, or amplify it one of the two.

Thanks for the complete answer, I will give it a whirl. When I tested the car the head unit looked a bit basic, but that is sometimes a good thing as I hate all these modern stereos with loads of tarty flashing lights.

Thats why a large number of us seem to have fitted the Pioneer 77-MP. Classy looks and good features. You can get the facia adapter from you local Skoda dealer for around £3.

Just had a look at the 77-mp, £220 on Car audio direct it looks very nice and not like a box of fireworks going off.

I've got to agree with Dogmaul here. The Renault radio's are pants. The Skoda ones aren't exactly fab but the wind noise reduction helps the stereo out so much.

my Clio 172 had a really good sound which was far better than the 206 gti I had before that, which would distort if cranked up, and skipped if I ran over a fag end.
If the Skoda is as good as the 172 I will be happy.

My Clio sounded ok, with the Alpine V12 in the boot and Alpine components up front.

My brothers 172 doesnt sound as clean as the vRS, however my vRS is nowhere near as clean, punchy and or dynamic as my Mondeo (new shape).

The Fabia's sound quality is nowhere near as good as my Mk4 Golf - that had 17cm woofers compared to the Fabia's 13cm, also the tweeters on the Fabia are pants. The head-unit in my opinion is fine. It has connections for pre-outs so you can add amplifiers and the CD-changer socket allows connection of any mp3 device (etc) once an adapter is fitted.

My summer project is to replace the front speakers with 17cm woofers, decent tweeters in the standard positions and fit the Skoda-Blaupunkt active sub in the boot. I'll also connect my iPod to the Symphony head-unit via an adapter I'm building.

If your going to go to the trouble of fitting upgraded speakers to the vRS, then you might as well go for a better sub than that puny skoda sub IMHO.

Depends what you're after though - if you're just after a bit more presence from your bass and want a convenient system which doesn't take up half the boot, then the Skoda sub is a good idea...
