| I towed the car to Claybank Skoda with a starting problem and they claimed it needed a new modified timing chain fitting for £532. After they got me to pay for that they said it needed a road test to check all was well. Then they claimed the road test showed the timing to be right out, and they needed to strip the cylinder head for £150. After that they came back with a new price of £1680 to put a new modified head in - at which point I told them to stick it! Having looked at the car i have found that the supposedly new timing chain is not even installed; the sprokets are off and are attached to the chain with nothing more than a couple of cable ties! What is more interesting though, is how on earth did Claybank take this car for a road test without a timing chain?! They obviously knew from the outset that the cylinder head would need replacing, but wanted to get me to commit to the work bit by bit. So, basically I am left with doing the job myself! Do you know how much the TDC setting tools are? |
