Default turbo replacement price

hmm..

say, i dunno, i needed to replace the turbo how much would it likley be?

I've been quoted a figure from a garage i've never used before as it was an emergency and i have no reason to not beleive them but it does seem very high.

They are not an official garage but have been dealing skodas for a while.

I've agreed for them to do the work, hey, i need to get the car going again regardless but having never had to buy one i have no idea what sort of price they are.

When spending any money i try and work out what i'm actually paying, how good is it compared to others, trying to get an informed view on where up/ down the scale things are. With this i have no idea, can Skoda really charge that amount?

Some prices are quoted into the 1k range but you can get a hybrid for less than that these days.

It depends what needs doing to the engine, but Skoda estimated around £1400 to replace the turbo when I rang them. The turbo alone from the dealer is £1000 so i'm assuming the other £400 is for labour and a few other materials ie oil etc.

I went to another garage that I use on a regular basis and ended up paying around £2000 for a Garrett GT17 (under £600), Forge FMIC, Seat Cupra splitter, oil/filter service, new brake fluid, new battery and labour.

I am in NL at the moment, but I've still got the turbo that came of Shifty's car pre-stage1 hybrid, suppose as it's a rush job you cant wait for a month

how much were you quoted or more to the point, how much are you paying if you've given the go ahead for the work?

as its not an official Skoda garage, i don't see how you can question how much Skoda can charge as you are not having the work done by them.

Thanks for the offers guys

Aprrantly its been fixed, going to pick it up tommorow afternoon. The price quoted isnt too far different to those others are quoting. I didnt want to start picking at there price and service before they have actually done anything. Companies make money by charging us extra, just wanted to know what the official price from skoda would be.

Apparently the turbo had basically disintegated, they had never seen this ever before and the bits where actually rattlying around making the whislting sound when driving. Its going to be interesting to see the remains tommorow.

The cars done about 67k miles, i drive sensibly but like to enjoy it when i can. I had been driving along the single carriageway road down to the M1 stck behind someone doing about 45-50. Got to the roundabout to join it, slowly building up speed as its a tight entry. Put my foot down and... nothing.
