Default vRS went POP! this morning...

while driving down to work, taking it nice and steady, all of a sudden a pop noise came from the driver's side of the engine bay along with a puff of air from under the wheelarch. This was accompanied by an almost complete loss of power. Holy Cr*p!!! was my first thought, so pulled over onto hard shoulder, opened bonnet for a look, couldn't see anything untoward, checked tyre etc, everything looked ok. Another 40 miles to work, 30 to the nearest dealer, so rang them and told them I was on my way with a sick car. Got there after leaving a trail of thick black smoke behind me while driving at 50 mph tops. Got to dealer, gave them my details and keys and waited for them to do a 'fast-check' on the car. Twenty minutes later the very nice girl behind the desk came out with my keys and told me it was a simple case of the turbo inlet pipe? having come off from underneath, so they fixed it back on, now the car is better than ever. I had mentioned in a previous thread about a whooshing noise coming on acceleration, it must have been this loose pipe that was causing it, plus I must have been losing a bit of power as well, so now I'm back to full power with no strange noises!!! I thought it was a lot worse than it actually was, so am relieved to say the least.

Plus, you got to have an insight into what it would've been like if you had bought the SDI...

Glad you got it sorted mate, definitely sounded like something was amiss when I replied to your thread originally

Sounded like the tyre had exploded, and with the air shooting out from under the wheelarch it kind of shocked, but there was pulling from the steering so immediately thought it was something to do with the whooshing noise I had been putting up with dor the past fortnight...

We were in the right hand lane of a busy Dual Carraigeway at a set of traffic lights.

Went to pull away and BANG!! I thought the same, a tyre gone. Lots of black smoke, SWMBO said the bloke beside us **** a kidney!!

Phoned AA and the brought it back for us.

Apart from the non-dangerous aspect of it - any way you can reduce the chance of this happening by screwing something on a bit tighter or putting on an extra clamp or anything?

Default Much scarier on a petrol car...

Had this happen on my 200sx at full throttle as I tried a bit of a "launch"

Not only did it sound like a shotgun going off in my engine bay, but in the rear view mirror a f-off fireball shot from the exhaust just after, a good 5 or 10 feet behind the car! Luckily no-one behind me at the time... The car did flame out on a fairly regular basis anyway, but when all boost was lost and a big gulp of petrol was being shoved down its throat, it went straight through the engine unburnt into the exhaust and gave me the dragon's **** effect

Now when that happens, you really are worried you've broken something...
