Default 1998 Felicia 1.9D wont start after new glow plugs fitted & timing belt.

Hi about a week ago I had the glow plugs and timing belt changed and a full service done on my 1998 1.9D Felicia after problems starting it in the colder mornings but was fine after het up.
A few days ago I had problems again getting it started from bot a cold and hot start, takes several turns before it starts, any ideas what the problem might be given the glow plugs and timing belt has been replaced? The garage seem to think its a faulty fuel pump?
Thanks
Iain

Had this problem last year with my 1.9d after new glow plugs. under the bonnet on the passenger side next to the battery there is a fuse box that contains a 50amp fuse which is for the glowplugs if that has blown i think that will be the fault . Hope this helps you.

Cheers for that, will check the fuse tomorrow, hopefully it's something that simple.

Its also possible the timing belt was fitted incorectly. Whip the cambelt cover off and check the timing marks line up on the camshaft and crankshaft pulleys...

Could it be this current sillcone fuel? My Felicia is a1.6 fitted i believe with Polo VW engine ,and i have just heard on the tv news that VW and FORD are not affected by this fuel problem.

Unlikely to be the fuel as it seems only petrol cars have been affected as far as I know. If the alleged faulty fuel is affecting o2 sensors, then it could affect any petrol car with a cat and o2 sensor, regardless of make.

i think that for some reason. the fuel is not melting the o2 sencers in the fords and vw's. must be made of tougher stuff?

lucky i got me a vw engine in mine, as i filled up at mk last week.

Unfortunately it wasn;t the fuse, garage are having another look at the timing belt to make sure it's fitted correctly. If anyone has any other ideas, please share.

The fuel pumps are pritty reliable! Try and see the timing needs adjusting.
The fuel pump is VERY expensive!!!! If the timing is out it will be hard started. If air has got into the fuel line it would stop it from starting......
Bring it to a different garage and see what they have to say about it, this has save me alot of money in the past getting another quote.
Hope this helps,
Brian Cambs.

to be honest if the pump timing was far out the engine wouldn't start at all, i would suggest checking the sensors on the pump

The timming for the pump doesnt have to be "far out" to make starting difficult for the car, if the pump timing is slightly out it will eventually start after cranking the engine for a prolonged period.
