| The old Saab 95 estate also had a rear facing seat in the boot that folded nicely into the floor: DSC_2715.JPG.jpg Don't know if I would like to have the kiddies sitting there when hit by a truck from behind, though ![]()

| According to Volvo only 10% of crashes are rear-enders, children within height limits in a third row rear facing seat specifically made the that vehicle are inherently safer, farthest from the point of impact and since the seating is rear facing, it allows the occupants to dissipate the crash energy across their entire back which produces even less body loading than a seat belt would produce. Side impacts (28%) are also safer as the wheel arches give additional stength to the bodywork. |

| Yeah the old Merc and Volvo estates had these seats. No-one makes a 7 seat estate anymore though. You get some big cars that look likely candidates like the Mondeo. |

| I am sure there would be insurance implications with these extra seats. Say, for instance, a car had 5 seats and belts and the car had 6 people in, the insurance wouldnt pay out and would possibly be invalid (driving with no insurance). The addition of these seats could be a sticky point as it wasnt done in the factory. Steve

| Maybe the vehicle would need to be re-registered as having 7 seats? And then obviously declared to your insurance. |

| Seen a new style Merc estate with 7 seats at a dealer near me and found a few Volvo ones on Ebay. Dunno how many estates have a 7 seat option these days as people carriers have taken the family holdall roll. |
