| I've just been through several pages about air, air intakes, induction kits, air filters, pipe mods, but I'm trying to get back to basics. The Felicia's air-box (resonator) big plastic square thing sitting on the wing was smashed to bits when it was crashed - the only thing left is the rubber pipe that the air-box pipe would connect to, the air filter housing is ok, along with the vacuum pipes and exhaust pick up. Question is, do I really need it, years back, cars just had exactly what I’ve got and nothing else. If I don’t have one, or replace the pipes, will this effect the power, the economy of the car? Digging up some memories many years ago, I remember a discussion that was had about the Micra’s intake and air-box and filter housing, Nissan had spent an equivalent of near on £1million developing this, so why go change it and play around with it or take it off etc…………..anyway – since my parts list keeps growing, I thought I’d best check whether or not this was going to be something vital for the air intake of the car. On the other hand – there is nothing stopping me just attaching an extra pipe on and feeding it down to somewhere near the grill for some cooler air, or would warmer air be better? In springs the argument of cold air and warm air intakes – but we’re talking about a 1.3lxi here which is going to travel about a tiny little island and won’t be driven hard, nor fast, the most excitement it’ll get is if my wife feels that her right foot is heavy, or careering around on the road to avoid the odd duck, rabbit, sheep, cow, chicken, etc. So do I leave it as it, get the parts for it, (no, not going down an induction root, there really isn’t much point), or just do a little mod to tidy it up? My head could have this argument for ages, but that will just give me a headache, and I’m trying to avoid them at the moment. Any help, ideas, suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! |

| From what i understand the resonator box is basically just to make the engine quieter? Takes away the noise from the air intake... but not sure. I imagine it would be perfectly alright to use without the box in place... you'll still have the air cleaner etc. phil |

| You still have an airfilter on the top of the engine, so you will probably get away without it. |

| Apparently in the Favorits, the 136 came with the resonator box, the 135 did not. Not sure why. Since some models they didn't even bother putting it in I wouldn't worry about it. Suppose you could run one of those bendy pipe things you can buy down to the appropriate place on bumper. The car has an inbuilt system to change air intake from behind the heat deflector plate at the back of the inlet, to the cold inlet, once the engine has warmed up. I think it's more designed for cold climates though.

| Well I think we've got the cold climate I shan't worry to much about it then, if I'd saved the bits I guess I could have rebuilt it, but at the time, wasn't my car, they weren't worried or fussed as long as it drove - so I was binned Still about a week away before the engine fires up, thanks for the advice anyway guys! | Agreed, if you've still got the filter you'll not knacker the engine; the rest of it's all hot and cold ducts, silencers, and a switchover valve. That said, I'd think about replacing it because it's amazing just how hot an underbonet can get on a sunny day, or just how warm a damp day can be and still give you "carburetor" icing. |

| Having stuck what I have back together, the housing for the cold/warm valve is repairable - the plastic clips are all broken, but a bit of glue will solve that. It's not as if it's something you need to take apart every service interval. All I really need is just a slightly longer rubber pipe the right diameter heading down towards the wing, it can then connect up to the hole or the rubber pipe that is already there. The foil pipe is ok too, a little rusty, but it's not about to fall apart, and that will fit on to the exhuast without an issue. Since I've found out the blanking cover for the bumber spot and front skoda badge is missing, I might ring one of the breakers to see if they have one along with a badge and blanking cover (can't believe Skoda badges are so rare ) if it's not too pricey to post, I could get one, bolt it in, and it's back to it's original way of accepting air. If however it is just a case of turning the volume down, then I might not bother. Don't know ![]() |
