hi all. i own a m reg skoda favorit flairline.which is a very nice car just wish it had power steering. the other day started my trustworthy machine (very reliable)let it warm up when all of a sudden engine reves increased descreased very fast rate.i thought THATS ODD. with a worryed look on my face. i spent all day checking leads rotor arm.sensors .wiring.ecu.nothing. i was thinking well its time for the old graveyard when i noticed whilst reading on your site (which is great )just wish their were a few more favorit owners on here.anyway i saw a problem with a felicia and someone quoted disconnect the battery over night to clear the ecu.i thought what the heck ,so i done this.left it over night.this morning reconnected the battery.and low and behold ITS NOW RUNNING FINE.i did change the coil as was missing under load. im a forklift engineer by trade and they are very complicated but this had me stumped. thanks again for a great site. chris.

Hi Chris, If the cars been misfiring, this can upset the ECU, especially on Favorits, they will all misfire badly if you don't keep the ignition in good order, and ignition components suffer badly with time on the Favvy, even with low mileage, as well as the coil you've done, the best thing you can do for the car is also change the following: * Rotor arm * Distributor cap * All coil & plug leads * Plugs if over 20K since last change * Also air filter if over 20K since last change, (dirty air filters can cause surging at idle as you describe). Do the above and you'll be amazed at the difference in power and fuel economy Regards Paul Last edited by favguy; 10-04-2008 at 13:15.

Valve clearances are also worth doing if not touched for a while.

I would agree with Favguy - always did this with my Favorit every 10K. Probably a bit of overkill, although it felt like a new car everytime!

| Sorry i dont agree, an ecu should never be disconnected, or reconnected with the battery still connected. you can easily spike the ecu

I would agree with rigsby - I have always re-set the ECU by disconnecting the battery.
