areet...i have a skoda felicia 1.9 diesel...anyway this is my problem, firstly it wont start secondly i know nothing about cars... anyway i had ran the diesel down very low but thought it was ok till i got to my destination which was 1 mile away where i had some diesel....when i started it up it felt like it was chugging so i thought definatley got to remember to put diesel in... so i got to my destination (forgot diesel) started car and it wouldntnt start...? tried but didnt get anywhere..so i put diesel in and still exactly the same... anyway AA couldnt start it and said maybe immobiliser or diesel pump? i had a spare key and it never worked either...he put it primer in and it was squirting diesel out but it seemed like diesel wasnt getting to where it should be, and when he bleeded it there wasnt diesel coming out.. any advice cheers

Renew the fuel filter (from what you say it may well be gunged up from tank dregs), put several gallons of fuel in it, then be way more persistent with the engine churning. IIRC there's no primer pump on these engines.

probably air enter to diesel filter so you need to put fuel direct to filter. i have same problem when change filter of fuel. maybe take new battery or connect to other car and try more times to engine up.

That's pretty much what I meant; if you run out of fuel on these cars it takes several minutes on the starter to pump diesel through from the tank. There shouldn't be a need to bleed the injectors though.

I done the same to mine when i changed the fuel filter and i forgot to perfill the filter. "i wont be doing that again!!! It took ages to get to run again. As said above buy a ney filter "pre fill it" and then crank it over. Again have a mate with a diesel and GOOD set of jump leads and go for it!

cheers for the replies... with regards to the primer, the AA lad put his own primer to a tube (or something) to my car and got the diesel squirting out? i had also tried to jump it with his van, with no luck.... he did bleed it...all the injectors,.. and the pump (i think) to see if diesel was getting through? i will try the fuel ilter..cheers forgot to add, afew months ago it wouldnt start due to the heater lights not coming on due to a faulty fuse..would that be doing anything? only reason i ask is that the radio appeared to turn itself on when that problem was there and it seems to be doing that now thanks

Could it be the fabled "hot start" problem with the 1.9D engine? If so a new Temp sender switch should solve it... http://www.briskoda.net/forums/felic...light=cube+van

on top of the fuel pump is a bleed nipple pour fuel down the feed pipe(disconnedcted from the fuel filter) and keep cranking you are feeding/filling the fuel pump.

Try checking if you have voltage at the glow plugs. Using a voltmeter connect the black test lead to earth and the red one to the glow plug wire. If you have 12-13 volts when ignition is switched on for a minute ish then they are getting a supply. If you have no voltage then they are not being turned on and won't start the engine. If you find this is the case then you may need a glow plug relay (of course it could be a wiring fault or temp sensor fault instead). If the plugs are working fine, fuel is getting to the pump and there are no airlocks and it still won't start, then you may have a diesel pump problem or ecu problem. My advice? Try the easy stuff like checking for airlocks and glowplug problems. If you can't fix it by doing that, get a mobile engine tuning/diagnostic specialist to fix it.

Em, you can start a diesel without glowplugs. It takes a bit of churning, and generates lots of white smoke when it first fires, but it can be done.
