| The first 300 miles in my Favorit Hello fellow Briskodians I posted a while ago with a question about buying a Felicia estate and ended up buying a Favorit estate instead ! I probably paid slightly over the odds but the car came from the original supplying Skoda dealer and was complete with the original sales receipt and nice touches like the original numberplates, dealer stickers, etc. It also came with a new MOT. It's been regularly serviced and came with history confirming that it had been well cared for in it's 63K miles. It's remarkably rust free and in far better condition than all the Felicias I looked at in my budget. I have just completed my first 300 miles and calculated the mpg at 42.7 so I'm sure that the engine and ignition is all in good condition. Just received my parcel from Jorily so a full service is planned along with replacing the fuel filter (probably original ?). Other things that look like they haven't been touched for a while, and are on the list to be replaced over the summer, are the leads, rotor arm and cap, also plan to replace the brake fluid. I will be going over the car more thoroughly so I expect I will find a few more jobs to do and will no doubt be asking for your advice.

| Re: The first 300 miles in my Favorit Must be a nice example to get over 40mpg, I struggled to get over 35 in all my old Favorits ![]() Definitely get the plugs and leads done. ![]()

| Re: The first 300 miles in my Favorit If you suspect the brake fluid needs replacing, I'd suggest draining, flushing and refilling the cooling system. |

| Re: The first 300 miles in my Favorit I believe I can get nearly 45mpg on a long motorway journey if I take it steady at about 55-60mph. As you can see from the sig though, on city driving with a bit of motorway it's not all that great - but I am a bit right foot heavy ![]() |

The coolant has been regularly changed since then, the last time in Jan 2007 - so I plan to do this next year. The brake fluid was last changed in Jan 2004 so I guess should be done soon.

| Re: The first 300 miles in my Favorit Use G12+ 50:50 with de-ionised water and you'll only ever need to change the coolant if it needs draining for some reason. It's available at GSF for about £5.50 a bottle and you'll need about two to fill the system. If the thermostat is quite old might be worth doing that at the same time too as they're only about a fiver. |
