Default stranded (flooding?)

my N reg carb favorit (bought new) left me stranded for the first time in its long history.i was moving slow in traffic at the time when it stalled and would not restart.some hours later i returned to where i left it and it started without probs.

i tugged on the various hoses and wires, and tried wobbling the carb with the engine on to see if there was any air leaks but there was no difference.

everyone i talk too suspects flooding.but this has never, ever happened before and i didnt really think the complex Jikov was susceptible to flooding. one theory i have is that maybe a part inside is failing which caused it to flood.

any ideas what it could be or how to verify(reproduce) flooding?

cheers

i was hoping it was an ignition problem as that would be simple and cheap to fix, but electrically it looks in all order.
