Hi,

Two different products I was looking into

Product 1:

Short shifter - I've got a Fabia vRS, I like the Forge quality, but the short shifter you do doesn't fit this car. What is the reason it won't fit this car, is it purely insuffient room to fit the short shifter? Also could one be made at reasonable cost?


Product 2:
I was hoping to replace the remaining OEM boost hoses with Forge/Silicone Hoses ones. This was arranged via APS, who were told the oil in the diesels makes the silicone hoses go 'off' quite quickly compared to on petrol applications. To resolve that, the silicone needs some kinda coating.

Now I've got a Forge FMIC for the Fabia vRS, has that been coated with this stuff, or will that go wrong over time? Also this is the first time they and also myself had heard of this - I'm quite interested in the 'why' side of things, as the costing would be quite extreme.

Are there any alternatives, other than going for a full custom set of pipework with fewer bits of hose in them?

If the FMIC hoses are not treated, please can it be explained why not if the above is indeed the case, as it appears to imply that without the coating it will go wrong. What kinda timescale are we talking about before it goes wrong, and what does 'going wrong' mean? Leaks?
If we are talking about 'it is fine for a couple of years' then I would just stick silicone ones in. If we're talking a few months, then my FMIC-related question becomes more important

to completely protect any hose against oil contamination it needs to be flouro silicon lined. However the oem set up will only normally have any sort of coating on the first turbo outlet hose (probably due to the heat in the oil mist at this stage) and then all others will be regular organic rubber. Silicone hoses are naturally more resistant than the oem rubber ones anyway but over time you will still get oil contamination through the hose. All of our turbo outlet SH parts are indeed flouro lined but not the regular intercooler kit hoses, however we can gaurentee the regular SH will last a lot longer than the original hoses. How long it will last is a piece of string really, it depends upon the application and the amount of oil in the system, We have had diesel FMIC kits in the market for 2 years now and seen no issues so far with oil impregnation of the SH parts.

It's just coz I got quoted some high figures for the hoses via APS from Forge based on this so wanted to find out more.

Regarding the short shifter, if you wanted to get in touch with APS regarding the short shifter, they have my car this week & next week so you could perhaps use mine to make sure it fits to their (& your) satisfaction?

no need to test on your car, we have a Polo GT here with the same 6 speed box.

Hoses are very expensive when you are talking about the first development as the tooling cost has to be taken in to consideration. If we are talking about a coolant hose kit for instance the mandrel tools could be anything up to £1k for a 8 piece kit

It's always the problem with low volume custom work unfortunately.

Will investigate the possibility of a bit of custom pipework instead
