Mintex Extreme Brake pads

Having not had a lot of luck with Green or Red stuff in conjunction with my 312 C/D Zimmermans (Both sets broke up after a bit of track use and were both useless on the road) I decided to take some advice I had from a policemen friend of mine who told me that all the traffic cars (The Volvos, Mercs, Lexus etc) going out of the maintainance unit were being fitted with the new Mintex Extreme pads.

Well if they use them then they can't be that bad...

Ordered them from Motorsport World - Performance Car Parts and was really surprised as with postage they only cost £47.50 and they were delivered the next day

They came in a cool box which is a bit of overkill for brake pads and were are a dark silver in color. Fitting and bedding in was quite easy, they came with specific bedding in instructions which could be quite hard to follow in some situations (Braking from 30-0mph twice then 70-30 twice etc) but seemed to make sense.
  • Immediate impressions from fitting; Sharp as hell!
  • After 500 Miles: Brilliant, far better stopping power than any other pad I have ever used, no fade to report (Even after the A350 run ). We are talking a true eyepopping stopping event if you push them. The harder you push the pedal, the quicker you stop, no ABS just stopping power!
  • After 2000 miles: As above, they continue to be a revelation. They never fail to surprise me how good they are

I can't recommend these pads enough. I have never used DS2500's to compare them with but considering these are less than 1/2 of the cost of the Ferrodo's I doubt you will get a better fast road pad anywhere near the money. The only drawbacks I have found is that they do seem dustier than the standard pads (Buy as my wheels are grey I am not really worried) and there is a little bit of noise when under 5mph but I have had this with other pads.

The acid test will be the track day coming up and to see how they cope with that. I have just bought a bottle of 5.1 so they will have big things expected of them

Re: Mintex Extreme Brake pads

I'm glad you posted this as I'll be needing new brakes in the next couple of months. Was thinking of either the Mintex or Tarox Strada pads combined with Zimmerman discs. From what you say the Zimmerman/Mintex set up sounds pretty good.

Have you had any problems with cracking on the drilled discs?

Re: Mintex Extreme Brake pads

Thanks for that Decron. Looks like it'll be X-drilled Zimmerman on the front, standard on the back and Mintex Extreme pads all round then.

Re: Mintex Extreme Brake pads

Sarah has this habit of emptying my wallet on a regular basis. She does make a good brew though.

Already priced the Zero Sixty's and it comes to £300.52 just for the discs.

X-drilled Zimmerman fronts and standard Zimmerman rears = £168.96 from GSF.

I only do about 4k a year so I can't really justify spending too much. I'm also not heavy on my brakes, car's done 62k and still on original pads and discs with plenty still left on the pads. I'm only changing them because the discs are starting to get quite corroded now.

Anyway, with the money I save the lovely Sarah will use her awesome powers and sell me something else. Either way I'll end up skint.

Re: Mintex Extreme Brake pads

After 72 laps (Yeah, I wanted my money's worth!) of the track at Hullavington I can honestly say these pads are supreme.

I did a 16 lap stint and I really wasn't hanging around for any of them and they took everything I threw at them. As I have mentioned they do seems to produce a bit more dust than standard but I cannot emphasise the actual brake ability of these pads.

The have coped well with the heat (The discs have gone blue BTW ) and they are just as sharp as they ever were.

Do yourselves a favour and replace your standard pads with these. They will only be a few quid extra for a truely awesome product!

Re: Mintex Extreme Brake pads

After the little Prague escapade and Mimon airfield, I need some new pads. I phoned up Motorsport world and the chap claimed the DS2500 were better than Mintex extreme (but he probably would say that as the Ferodos are 2.5 times the price)!

But, I'm not sure whether Mintex make a pad for 323mm Brembo GT fitment. Looking up various motorsport retailers websites, when I go to Seat Leon Cupra R which I believe comes with the 323mm brembo fitment from factory, Mintext doesn't seem an option. Now whether that's because they don't stock them or Mintex doesn't make them, I don't know.

I'd happily try these pads if I could get hold of them. Having experienced DS2500 stopping power, I don't really want to go elsewhere (after having horrible experiences with EBC stuff)...

Anyone know?

I know what you mean, Stuart. After my EBC experience (no brakes at third roundabout of ring road when driving enthusiastically ), I'm well aware of the differences between pads. However, Decron really rates these, and although he hasn't tried DS2500, he's had bad experiences with EBC and his recent track day with these on suggests that they don't fade when hot as the EBCs do...

Re: Mintex Extreme Brake pads

I have had a set of Mintex brake pads and disks fitted all round. The fronts being extreme ones.

As Decron say's, they are amazing. MUCH better than the standard pads, very progressive and responsive. Seem to stop the car very well.

Only cost me £138 inc vat delivered to my door from Just Parts Biz all they seem to sell is mintex stuff.

Just picking up on an old thread here.......

As i'm running the 312mm on the front of my Fabia and standards on the rear, which ones do I need to get? Octavia vRS???

Also, are these Mintex Extremes still rated the best value??

Cheers

Re: Mintex Extreme Brake pads

Have been using the Mintex Extremes for a few thousand miles now. They are very good across all useage, not too hard to work cold and not too soft to work when the going gets really tough. They are fade free and very progressive. Will use them again.
