Default car hit at work

i got to work this morning and 10 minutes later ,one of my work mates came over to me and said "Ithink i just hit your car Dave".After a few expletives we went out to the carpark and sure enough he had clipped the rear bumper and rubbing strip, leaving a 6 inch scuff ,a 2 inch gouge and several light gouges on the bump strip. As my bump strips are all colour coded ,this really shows up and although ive tried t-cutting the scuffs out ,they wont come out. What (apart from taking him off at the knees)should i do about it as he hasnt even offered to pay anything towards the repairs as he says its not THAT bad ,but i know its there and it wasnt a couple of hours ago .The only damage to his bmw is a couple of marks on the front indicator lense and bumper strip.I know its not much ,but its pi**ed me off because it took me a lot of time and effort to tidy it up when i first got the car and his "never mind" attitude has really got to me

If you want to take him off at the knees, report him for "not providing insurance details to a person having grounds to require them".

Just go over to him and say "I think you need to pay for the damage or supply your insurance details"

Indeed. That's not on. Give him the option to pay for the repair or report for not providing insurance details.

thanks guys ,ill have a quiet chat with him in the morning and suggest he pays for part, if not all the repairs and hopefully we will come to a result.I dont want to fall out with him because he is a fairly good mate but it was his attitude that wound me up.

If he was that a good a mate he would have offered to pay, before telling you what he had done.

Hope you get it sorted

If he has a problem, you could just ask him would he be happy to live with it if you did the same to his car?

If he says yes, then accept it, reverse into his car using the damaged bit and causing similar damage then walk in and do as he did to you

If he can afford a BMW, he can afford to have your car fixed, end of.

Something like

"Hi

I've got 3 repair quotes for the damage you said you caused to my vehicle. Would you like to pay in cash or shall I provide you a photocopy for your insurance company?"

He,s probally thinking "Its only a Skoda and i have got a BMW"
Bill him for it and get every penny out of him too.
Or sledge hammer his car (i would).

yes,he probably is .I once had a bmw and i know which i prefer. He may also be a little upset as he has just paid out 2 grand for a new turbo so another 100 quid wont hurt will it?

This topic has been discussed on Radio2 today on the Vine show (with Clive Anderson).

They had Steve Berry on (who I originally thought was a TIT but I am sure he is now) discussing what one should do if these things happen.

One thing was mentioned is that many people would probably admit fault if they didnt fear been completley stuffed by the other party expecting absolute perfection to the repair when the car itself is clapped out etc. They gave examples of people with battered cars expecting brand new bumpers and resprays and all sorts just for a wee scuff where a "invisible repair" would suffice.

So, all I am saying is get him to pay for the damage but dont go overboard with it, especially as he is a work colleugue. He will think more of you if you are reasonable about it.

Steve

Someone drove into the back of my car on Sunday when SWMBO was driving. It's only made a few scratches and one gouge through into the plastic and I got a repair bill of £278 +vat today. Thankfully we got her details and an off duty copper has agreed to be a witness should she deny liablility. It might not look that bad but get a quote and watch his chin hit the floor
