| erm yeah.... it's quite common for diesel generators to have superchargers, a lot of the marine diesels like the perkins and rolls-royce engines have them too it's pretty much the same thing as turbocharging, all you are doing is force feeding the engine with air under pressure

| Is this the next mod in the making then Luke? Lol... the only downside to supercharging is that it is driven off the engine directly (usually a belt) and therefore uses some power itself so normally only stuck on a meaty engine to begin with. It is also possible, as far as i'm aware, to super/turbo charge an engine at the same time for uber power! lol |

| yes it is possible... on a petrol engine it's quite complicated because you need lots of pipework and valves etc, but it would be easier on a diesel engine, you could have an electronic clutch on the supercharger drive so that is dissengages when the turbo is working, tbh i dont think it would be worth it on a pd engine but other diesels might see some benefit from it

| Cheers guys, it was just something I was thinking about today at work, and I wondered why nobody (that I'm aware of) had tried it yet on the forums. I also wondered how hard and expensive it would be to install one, and what sort of gains one might see. But yea Phil, if it wasn't going to cost a total bomb, I was thinking it could be an option perhaps.

| Mazda tried it on the 626. The fact they still don't says something. It's not as efficient on smaller engines (Think about the mass and momentum) as mentioned it draws power direct from the engine. |
