| Ok I've found an artical i knew i had read in the October 2003 issue of Volkswagen Driver magazine that dealt with the different types of headlights that are available. It includes the following section on xenon headlights..... Now with regard to the section highlighted i would like to ask the original poster if he can confirm with his source that the price includes levelling and washers??? This will then benefit all people interested in going for these items. VW Driver - Issue 41 / October 2003..... Increasingly Volkswagens are being offered with the option of gas discharge lighting. Instead of relying on a glowing filament as the light source, these units use an initial high voltage (23,000V) to create an electrical discharge in a glass envelope filled with xenon gas. Rather like the operation of a fluorescent strip light, an arc of ionised xenon gas heats the enclosed metallic salts to vaporisation point, at which point full light output is produced. It takes around four seconds to initiate the ignition process and, once the discharge has reached full intensity, the igniter automatically shuts off. The inverter then maintains the correct operating maintenance voltage, drawing only 35 watts of power while producing three times the light output of a traditional 55/60W halogen bulb. This also results in a much more intense white light, much closer in colour temperature to daylight. A 35W D1 gas-discharge lamp emits light with a high colour temperature (typically 4500k) and, similar to sunlight, relatively large components of green and blue light. So superior is the light output that it is a statutory requirement that gas discharge units must be used in conjunction with automatic levelling, to prevent the risk of dazzling oncoming traffic, and a headlamp washer system. Cheers Dave. |

| To all you guys planning on fitting illegal kits: YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW ANNOYING YOUR LIGHTS WILL BE TO OTHER DRIVERS!!!!!!! If I were to have you coming the opposite direction, I would make a point of getting your reg plate and reporting you to the police as the illegal kits are likely to cause an accident because THEY BLIND EVERY SOD COMING THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION TO YOU!!!! DON'T FIT ILLEGAL KITS!!! |

I've started a thread on xenon kits over here: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/styli...d-kits/100129/ Think we probably ought to leave this thread for group buy purposes as the OP requested?

| Hiya Steve, maybe interested but £300 is a lot of money, would be good to see a car that has had it done too see what sort of an improvement it makes. Mark, that's ********, stop being such a rule book carrying boy scout.

Sorry I'm the only one mentioning am I? Maybe you'd like to have a go at all the others too as well Emily, or do you enjoy singling me out? I do wonder if the Highways Agency agree with their staff publicly disagreeing with the official position on such activities. I'm sure me being a `rule book carrying scout` will be irrelevant when somebody crashes into a car fitted with after-market HIDs, because they blinded them Especially when the insurance fails do pay out for illegal or undeclared modifications and not keeping the car in a road worthy condition. Also, I didn't realise it was Briskoda policy to promote illegal activities.

| Who says they're illegal? The full details haven't even been shown yet!!! The way I'm reading it is like this: The full system that you would have paid £500 for but its for £300 and why not, they dont make 'em anymore so if someone has got hands on some kit?Why else is it so much when there are many places advertising kits for half the price? Also why is someone from skoda/ex-skoda involved if its not OEM? Lets wait and see whats on offer and then start arguing ![]() |

I really hope the plod stop you and make you rectify everything on your car. Do you have blue neons and washer lights too. You do realise illegal modifications to your car make your insurance invalid don't you. That means if you get stopped for these or involved in an accident and the other party blames being dazzled and they want to take you to the cleaners you can be looking at driving uninsured. As for not liking them, no if they are legal, eg OEM retrofit and could be done for the octy II then I'd actually quite like a set.
