| Here's my logic: The Octavia is based on a Golf, and Golfs are made by VW, and it's my understanding that VW use amplified antennae on at least some of their range. Here's my question: Do Octavii (1998 vintage) have amplified antennae that will need a cable adapter when fitting a new head unit? And if they don't what would happen if such an adapter was used anyway? I can envision 12V going stright up the antenna and back down to ground and things getting warm! |

| My 98 Octy needed the powered aerial amp, not expensive bought from Halfords. Cheers Andy

I'd got the Blaupunkt VW adapter already but was putting off fitting it in case it would melt something. The new head unit seems to pick up Radio2 almost as well as the original HU (even without any power to the antenna amp) though. I was expecting an amplified antenna to give very poor reception when not powered. | |

| Without the amp you'll get reasonable FM reception due to slightly weaker signal. You will however get virtualy no MW or LW reception (AM for America).

| Hmmm, sounds like mine doesn't have anything to power the aerial, as it were. Does it matter if you change the aerial itself?? ![]()
