Amplifier mounting to sub.

Is it possible to mount the amp for a sub, on the side of the sub-box?

Im just buying the kit to for a sub and amp and I reckon that every time I go camping, im going to want to leave the sub at home.

Is it really bad to mount your amb to the sub?

Vibration or EM-interference the problem?

Any ideas or recommendation from those more ICE savvy than myself?

I cant see any issues with doing that. Active subs are just that anyhow.

Just make sure when you remove it the live supply from the amp is insulated, would be a good idea to run the battery live to an insulated distribution block so you can undo the wire and remove with the amp.

Good idea,

My plan is to have 4AWG power cable allow for a sensible upgrate at a later date with an extra amp to power the Interior speakers maybe.

Are there any with any kind of quick release mechanism or plugs you can wire up?

Any recommendations?

dont know of any quick release things but i know for certain that you can attach the amp to the sub. that is what i did, i have rocford fosgate amp on the back of my box, its out of the way and secure. no vibration issues either its been on there for 4 years now! and still sounds as great as it did the day i brought it.

Yeah there's no problems relating to mounting the amp to the sub, but I don't like the idea of a "broken" power lead to the amp. You want the best possible connection from your battery directly to your amp!

I'm always carrying things about in mine, I've mounted my amp to the back of the seats and have a "quick release" connection to the sub, which I find very useful!

Fuse? Distribution block?

These arent uncommon joints inbetween the battery nd amp, none should effect the supply.

Which neither are "quick release", they are hard wired into the feed!

Having said that back to the problem at hand, you could always pull the fuse out, when the amp's not connected, to ensure the loose + wire is not live! BUT you are left with undoing/doing up the connections each time you want to take you sub out, which is far from ideal

Manufactures make quick release systems between the "amp and sub", not the "battery and amp" and that's for a good reason! So your car, is less likely to catch fire...

Maybe not quick release but all you would need to do on a distribution block is turn an allen key a few turns and that would be it.

Well, i just wondered if there were heavy enough plug/socket or banana leads to connect between the Amp and Power supply, without having to get a screwdriver out each time.

The back seats get folded a lot, so naturally I wouldnt want my amp bolted to them.

I wondered if there was something heavy duty and tough like a kettle lead or something.

Can someone explain, will I need a signal cable from HU to turn on the amp in the boot, and should this cable run with the RCA or Power cables?

Yes you will need a remote live, it can be run wherever you like, with RCA's or Power. You can get RCA cables with a remote lead built in.

I have a similar need to remove ICE from the car (Climbing) an decided that the best solution was a circuit breaker type fuse box ~£5 from Maplin. I plan to mount this in the boot near the amp (also fused at battery end) to allow clean and safe disconnection of the power.

This has a large screw terminal post, and you can replace the nut with a wing-nut for easy removal. Terminate your amp power cable with a ring, then fasten to the circuit breaker with the wing nut. Can send picture at the weekend (once I have installed it!)

Most of the plug / socket combination I checked out didn't seem suitable for $awg cable, although I did think of large professional speaker connectors, but didn't get around to checking them out.

Do you have the link for it on the website? I dont live 2minutes from a Maplin anymore, alas.

Im prob going to end up removing the ring from the power cable soon, to attach it to the amp. Shame there arnt any nice heavy duty/ high surface area contact plugs avaliable we can wire into the car.
