Default Amplifiers

Hi everyone, as you can see this is my 1st post. Placed my deposit for a vRS this afternoon - spending half the weekend reading all the forums helped me decide I'm doing the right thing!

Has anybody tried mounting amps in the void behind the spare wheel? The only concern I have is the possible lack of ventilation but I guess some sort of vent could be cut (!) out of the carpet.

When I get round to doing it (approx 36.5 seconds after picking the car up!) I'll fire up the G2 and put some pics up.

BTW all the tips on the speakers were great - I've got some Infinitiys for the rear and will stick some components up front.

Cheers!

Simon

The dealer says 7 - 10 working days, apprentley Skoda UK have circa 50 black ones in stock! Just as well, off to Champagne in a couple of weeks!

Seen the thread with the amp in boot now (doh!) but one of my amps is 16 inches long so the old grey matter will have to work overtime...

Quite right, too! Sounds like someone at Skoda UK has no colour sense.

The correct colour for a vRS is Rally Red. Since this is no longer available, Lemon Yellow is an acceptable alternative. Corrida Red will do at a pinch, but other colours are an abomination.

Welcome to Briskoda - and don't take anything you see posted here too seriously

Simon,

If you're going to hide away a large-ish amp you might want to look into some cooling fans and some air ducting (I kid you not!) - it's possible to wire them up to run only when the amp is on, although AFAIK things start to get a bit complicated then (remote lead runs the relay I believe). Last thing you want to do in a new car is melt the wheel well!

Have you thought about mounting the amp on the side of the boot? There should be room to get it in place, although it may involve slightly more elaborate wiring... Can't find it ATM but it's about somewhere... You can see the fun I had with my boot, but Fabia boots are just a touch smaller than octy's!

Look forward to seeing the pics!

Hi Stimps

The sides of the boot were the original thought but I'd prefer to hide them. And when I saw that area behind the wheel....
Had a complete false floor in my MKII GTi but that was well ventilated. I think you're right about the wiring for the fan - I guess wire them through the remote amp switch on the HU (it's an Alpine 78 something) BUT use a separate power cable from the amps for obvious reasons...

Anyone ever passed cables back through the centre console along the tunnel? Looks a bit tight but any thoughts welcome! Otherwise down each side...

In theory, CANBUS is designed to avoid all this hassle with power lines and control circuits. You should be able to plug in a smart amplifier to the power supply and a control circuit anywhere in the car.
Unfortunately, the message doesnb't seem to have got through to the manufacturers yet...

Usico,

I've fitted mine in there. Have a search and you will find pictures, or look on Manny's site, www.octaviars.com go to the gallery of black RSs and then look at Jon's RS, there is a picture of mine in there

Not tried the centre console, but apparently there's loads of room at the sides, even on a fabia, so you should be fine on an Octy! I have power running on the left side (along with the cable for the multichanger partway) and then signals and remote down the right; not the "perfect" arrangement, but I've had no problems what so ever!
