Question On-board Mp3 In Second Din Slot ???

Does anyone know if you can wire in a seperate MP3/CD player in the lower din slot - and still use the factory set-up ????

Has anyone done it ?....and if so what equiptment etc

I have loads & loads of CD's - but usually end up listening to the same six for months becuase I can't be bothered to change,so an MP3 would be grate......

Ian (Tavia4x4) is, I believe, looking at doing something like this with an M-station.
Inputs seem to be a bit of an issue though - I'm sure the man himself will willing to
tell more...

Got mine working over the weekend, input is currently a little "heath robinson" in that it's using a tape adapter hacked and rewired with RCA leads...

The "aux in" cable for our symphony head unit is not "seen" by the unit, so will not switch to it, looking at combining the aux in and CD changed cables, with audio switching, but I won't say anymore till I have that working.

Ian, it might just be a case of getting the aux in enabled using a vag-com or vag diagnostic tool. Thats what the K wire is for.

Initial response

"it should be enabled by default, we think...... but there is a fuse on the K wire, we think... can I go check and come back to you?"

Where's big K, he should be able to find out?

If the aux-in on the Symphony head-unit needs to be enabled by the VAG-COM tool?

http://www.bluespot.co.uk/stock/auxin.asp

I have this cable, it's the same plug as the cd changer, but just using the R \ L \ ground pins...

However, with the cd changer unplugged, the head unit will not switch to an "aux" or "cd" channel - which is what we want it to do.

Looking at the lead description, did you read the last line

This lead is not suitable for use with VW Beta / Gamma / Chorus factory-fitted radios. It will plug in, but not be recognised by the radio.

Perhaps that has something to do with it, in which case you will need to do some jiggery pokery to have the changer present.

ian can you pm me exactly what you have done and if you have vag-com (which i think you do) give me the coding number on the radio). i take it that you have all the other wires plugged in switched on (on mp3 player or whatever you trying to fit).
