Yes you can, but don't expect the changer to work, because it won't

Sorry, but the answer is no - different ICE maunfacturers use different connections which would make virtually impossible to connect the two together without some fancy electrical interface.

I expect it would be no more than a weekend project for someone with a protocol analyzer and PIC burner. I haven't looked into it yet, but if the electrical interface on both ends isn't much more complicated than a low speed (clocked?) serial line then it would be possible to blow a chip, with driver components on veroboard for £15. The function calls should be fairly easy to map, surely? What will a Sony head unit expect that a Skoda changer can't do?

Anyway, when I come to change my HU.......

Simon,
You're right - nothing too fancy but is the sound quality of the stock changer worth the hassle - as Quinten says, are you likely to bother? Personally, I'm going to ditch my changer and go the MP3 route ... when I can decide what to buy - I don't want something too flash or with too many fiddly small buttons.

I'm going to buck a trend here, just for a change

Whilst browsing round Halfords the other day, I noticed they do an adaptor to get the standard VAG changer to work with Sony head units. About £12 IIRC. May be worth a look.

Jon, was this just a harness / plug adaptor, or was there a box of tricks involved?

If its just wiring differences, then i cant see why its not possible for other HU's, given the appropriate details...

It would be nice if you can do this with a Panasonic HU

Geoff, looked like a box of tricks which sat between the standard loom and plugged into the Sony HU BusAudio socket

Adrioan, I'm fitting it tomorrow along with a few other sundry bits
