Could well be. But I think the dealer should be able to fill you in on the alarm details as it sounds to me as an aftermarket thing, and not necessarily a Skoda option.

He seemed to suggest it was a skoda upgrade option. I'll find out more when I pick it up on Satuday. He mentioned some sort of certificate with it so I'm hoping for som thatcham approved goodness

Cat 2 immobiliser is factory-fit, so this is what the insurance take into account.

The idea that you get a discount for a Cat 1 alarm is pretty much a myth. Alarms are more for peace of mind than anything else

But for any after-market Thatcham system, there should be a fitting Certificate, usually from a VSIB approved fitter.

Edit...

By the way, there is a Skoda approved Cat 2 to 1 upgrade system

Yep, Geoff is right. If the dealer is saying it's Thatcham approved then there should be a certificate signed by the installation engineer who carried out the upgrade.

As for cheaper insurance, some brokers ask for all the details but as for DL they don't give a monkey.

You'll generally only get discount for a tracker device but you have to weigh up whether the cost of the tracker is less than the insurance....apart from the security aspect

I found it wasn't so didn't get one.

For piece of mind get a cat1 alarm and a disclok.

I got no discount for a CAT1, and couldn't find anyone who'd give me a discount for a tracker.

So I've just got CAT1 on mine.

Skoda did offer an upgrade, Scorpion or Cobra IIRC. I went for a Sigma CAT2 to CAT 1 upgrade as it was £60 cheaper and I didn't need a seperate fob.

If you are thinking of modding the RS Paul, try Liverpool and Victoria - phone, don't use the online quote thing.

My eldest son's BMW M3-lookalike is only covered for theft if the Cat 1 alarm (which he had to provide proof of fitting) has been armed and, following any theft, he is in possession of all keys and immobiliser fobs. So no reduction of premium for a Cat 1 alarm - and no theft cover unless those conditions are met. (Insurance arranged with Sabre through Adrian Flux).

Spot on Jon, which is why I chose the Toad 850T2.

As Adrian has already said, Disklok is a good deterrent for the amature thief and is rated CAT3.

Wow! Isn't that a bit harsh? So when his family (I'm making assumptions here )are held at gunpoint in the middle of the night in order to force him to hand over the keys, his insurers will pay nowt?

Hi all.

Thankx for the help. It apears to be a skode authorised/fitted Scorpion Alarm. Its a bit anoying as I have to used a stupid remode rather than the buttons build into the key.

Is there anyway of making the key buttons do the alarm too?

The Toad system arms when the deadlocks are activated via the original key fob or by the key, so you could take your car to a Scorpion dealer and see if it’s possible to have this feature and do away with the remote.

My Sigma jobbie works from a separate fob. I kind of like it that way though, because I have the option to either A) Set the alarm and have all windows close automatically via the alarm fob, or B) in warm weather just lock the car with the windows open (on my driveway of course) without the alarm.
