| Right I am about to order the new stereo up for the misses and my car. I am interested in 2 units. The first is a Radio Casette plugged into a CD changer The second is a CD/MP3 plugged into a CD changer I have the CD changer with is a 6 disk kenwood unit but I am not to sure wether to go CD all the way or allow for tapes ? We maybe use tapes once in a blue moon but it would be nice to have the ability to play them.

| Take the MP3 option, you'll never look back, or pay for your music again ![]() |

Personally, I wanted MP3/CD and tape, so went for a CD changer that decoded MP3s, and a tape head unit. But I guess if you've already got the CD changer than it'll push the expense of it up. Or, howabout transferring your tapes into MP3? Rob. | |

| I'm with Rob - go for mp3 and digitise the tapes. You'll have fun in the process, listening to all your old stuff while recording. OTOH, you'll never use the CD changer again when you have an mp3-enabled head unit. You'll soon find that it's easier to rip and burn 10 CDs on a CD-R than to do that and constantly manually change 6 discs. An mp3-enabled 10-disc changer would be the best solution short of a harddisk...

| Anyonw know of a program that can record playback from a tape ? I take it that it will record as WAV format and then compress it to MP3 ?

| Connect line out from a tape player to line-in on your computer...then find a decent recording program (such as CoolEdit) which can record from this source. You can then tidy it up in the software and convert it to MP3... Rob. |

| What Rob says... If you want to record from vinyl, you need to put an amp in between. My computer sound is coming through the stereo anyway, so the sound card is effectively the second tape deck. ![]() I've even refrained from most of the tidying up! As far as records are concerned, every tick has its own memory. I get a warm feeling every time I hear them come by in my mp3s. ![]()
