Discreet Subwoofer

Right. basically, i fancy adding a sub to my DEH77MP head unit... ive already got 2 amps. BUT, i dont particuarly want a feckorrf sub box in the boot. as
A) i need the space.
B) I want it to be out of sight.

sooo, what are my options?

Ive seen on other cars a small sub that is kinda "intergrated" onto one side of the boot, but that seems expensive...

Can anyone help?

Does look quite good and saves on space, but they are expensive but supposed to be very good quality.

Kenwood do a free air sub which would fit in one of the reccess at the side of the boot (mounted on MDF) www.mcs-direct.co.uk. I ordered one but they sent me the wrong one and I couldn,t be bothered to send it back. I think the ref is KFC WF305 for 12" and KFc WF 255 for 10"

Hmm.. ive got 2 old blaupunkt 8" free air subs, alpine v12 and a hooj clarion amp.. might have to see what i can do

how difficult is it to dismantle the interior to run the wires down... Xavier? you done yours yet?

The side trim is easy basically pull the door rubbers away (I started on the door pillars and moved them from side to side) then the plastic trims un-clip. If some of the clips stay in place I used a flat bladed screwdriver to get them out and they slide back in to the plastic. The two trims near the drivers / passengers feet have two screws behind a flap. The cantre consule comes apart by taking the ashtray out (from backseats) and removing two torx screws I think that theres something else (two philips screws ?) to remove but I can't remember. The only problem I had was runniing the power cable through (it could power a small city) as ther is not much carpet that goes under the trim.

here you go guys, this is about as discreet as things get sub wise, my mate two doors down has one in his 911(1982, i aint rich or anything), sounds good and for its size and little, could even put one under each front seat ultra girlie fun

There's one for the VW Polo, but you'd be pushing your luck if you got an exact fit!

Thats interesting to see. They didn't do one before, which is why I made my own. Another little possible future mod now then!

how about a free air sub in the parcel shelf?? What kind of music do you listen to??? As a decent set of 6x9s or 7x10's will pound out decent bass, my cerwin vegas pump some excellent pumping bass!!!!

Exactly what I was thinking!

I had a set of 7x10's in my old Fabia and they were excelent. May go for a set of 6x9's this time, but with the addition of an 8" free air sub. Don't really want to lose boot space, which is tight as it is on the Furby.

Ahem, well, I went down the middle in the end for the power cable and RCA leads.
Went down the side for the speaker wire coming from the amps to the speakers at the front.

I did it that way round 'cos the plastic door trim bits under the sill are really really stiff and don't give you enough room to squeeze 4awg wire. But they do flex just enough so you can get some speaker cable in there

Feeding the power cable and RCAs through the middle was fairly easy - just take out ashtray in front of the gear knob and unscrew the three torx screws. Also, take out cup holder at back of centre console (behind the hand brake) and remove the couple of screws there. Should be enough to raise the whole plastic trim by 10cm so you can squeeze your cable in.

The b1tchy bit is getting the cables threaded through under the carpet between the rear seats, between the rear of the centre conslole and the boot.

In terms of installing the sub "stealthily", I'm going down the false floor route: putting amps and cabling at the bottom of the boot and then building a suspended floor about 8-10cms high, thereby hiding the amps/cabling and giving a load height close to the bottom of the opening of the boot. I have my eyes on a very sweet sub in an awesome box and I love it (having heard it too )

I'm going to do something similar to this:

Notice how the floor is raised (Hope I never ever end up with a puncture though )

Another possibility is puting the sub on the side next to the wheel arch like so:

Just realised, neither of those two types of install are "stealthy" enough. I am a little worried about putting all of this kit in my car - last car was broken into twice with smashed windows and door locks in the space of a month . Having replaced my old 5dr polo with the fabia, I'm really happy the driver's door is the only one with a lock to pick

The only thing missing is the sub box.

It isn't that hard to build a fibreglass sub box, there are tips on the talk audio forum. I will be building a comletly stealth install for my new car. All you will see when all the covers are on is 4 80mm fans.
