I have found that just changing the H/U gives a much better sound - to my taste, the oem speakers are pretty good.

I have a pioneer dehp-77mp which a lot of people rate really highly. It has very good D/A chips and is a single slot CD player with mp3/wma capabilities. If you go down the pioneer range, any pioneer cd changer should work as they all use the "IP Bus".

Just out of interest, why are you particularly after a 6CD changer? If it's for sound quality (compared to compressed mp3 for example), fair enough but you'll need to amp the sound externally to get the most out of it. If you have a PC and were thinking of a 6CD changer just so you can have a large amount of music available, maybe mp3 is a good alternative (you can stick up to about 10 albums on a single CD without sacrificing sound quality too much).

Generally though, if you want to listen at music at high volume levels or want a good amplification, an external amp will always be better than the ones builtin to any h/u. For that reason, the pioneer 77mp is a lot better than the symphony you get as standard, but I'm sure if you were to amp the symphony seperately, it would sound very good too

The 77mp is a little retro though and you either like it or hate it. It's certainly not bling looking, but the front is aluminium and it feels strongly built. Can be bought on the net for around £250. You can see a pic of it installed in my fabby vrs here: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/xavier....RS/cradle3.jpg

It's a little difficult to recommend a h/u unless you know how much you want to spend on it and how much ancillary equipment (amps, and other electronics) you're prepared to have around it (so you need to find out where you'd physically place them). The fabia's standard sound setup is pretty good, but the nature of the small car means you are limited to using the boot for adding amps. I've tried putting an amp under the seat, but you can't do it easily because of the ventilation ducts.

Hope that helps.

Does depend on what you got to spend, but generally, most high output h/u's are a huge improvement over standard! I am running a Clarion VRX928RVD multimedia system and am well impressed with the difference it made to the standard speakers.

Blaupunkt woodstock 53. It's DAB radio and uses MP3 on both cd and MMC/SD memory card AND can record the DAB signal of the station you are listening to.
There is also a non record 52 version, but the display is not as nice.

Thumbs up

tks for ur help guys ...

i cant use any dab kit because reception in my part of kent is non-existent,
cant get freeview or radio signals.
also bit of a luddite where mp3 concerned.

im having the front speakers done by skoda ABA 400 001 and ABA 400 003,

there is a sub and amp combo for the boot but im not going down that route.

I'm gonna look at the Pioneer today, looks stylish and not too bling.
Also have a look at 6 cd to match.
I am goin down the changer route simply because i can store the cd's there and because i drive a lot at night, and hard to change.

let u know how i get on, skoda are gonna fit the h/u, changer and spkrs at the same time, the guys there seem to be up on their ice.

cheers fellas.

MP3 is easy peasy with the right software (even windows media player is not too bad.). I know what you mean about the DAB reception in Kent as I was trying to use it the other day on my way back from France.

Don't bother with 6 disc changers, get an MP3 compatible HU. You can easily fit 6 Discs worth on 1 CD.

Have a look at the Blaupunkt Los Angeles, its the same as the Woodstock but without DAB. It also has a multimedia card slot so you can get even more music on it

mcs-direct are NOT authorised Alpine dealers. It is sourced in the UK though. Give me a ring and I'll see what I can do for you. You could even come up and see me. I'm on the A12 in Newbury Park
