Default Gone and done it!

Well, after months of deliberation I finally opened my wallet and got a MFD 2

I really, really wanted the MFD 3 and I'm going to loose my parking sensor display and mp3 capability and aux input, but it should look bloody great!!

I don't know if anyone else has put one in a Fabia II, I'll post some pics up when I'm done!

You might not lose Aux input.

Looking at your sig you seem to have a new shape Fabia.
I didn't realise these worked and checking the link the accesories catalogue doesn't show MFD2.
?koda Accessories

Good luck.

That's correct, the only one Skoda offer is a monochrome one which doesen't have maps.

However MFD's and even an MFD2 have been fitted into a Fabia MKI without problems, they should just plug and play with the existing wiring, and then some VAG-COM fettling (Which luckily I have)

The only two concerns I have is that I am guessing there isn't a facia adapter/surround for MFD2/FabiaII so I am hoping that the one for the existing dance unit will fit, and also the FabiaII doesen't have a metal grille in the top of the dash to plumb the GPS receiver into, so not sure where it is going to go

The MFD1 had the ISO connectors, so it is an easy fit for the fabia1, the mfd2 & 3 on the other hand use quadlock connectors so the fitting to the wiring is not as simple as it sounds, as I'm not sure on the Fabia II radio wiring. If it uses the same quadlock connector as the MkII Octavia it could just be a case of making it fit (if it has the same size hole).

I was looking at this guide here, is this the quadlock connector you are reffering to?

It certainly is, it looks like you could be on to a winner there. It should be a quite straight forward fitting, with only the surround maybe a problem as the outline of the mfd is different.

Do you know roo, is the surround made for the dashboard or for the stereo, because if I ask for a surround for an MFD2 in a FabiaII i am screwed because they don't do one.

If on the other hand the facia makes the MFD fill a standardised gap it sits in that might be a different story

Edit: The shape of the units looks similar, but I don't know if the dimensions are the same

She's in! And as promised here are some pics

VAG OEM Head units might me a trifle pricey, but the simplicity of the connector and removal makes it worth it!

The sound quality is better, radio reception is 1000x better and it looks nice to have a colour lcd there instead of a greyscale one

It's a perfect fit, no worries about the surround or anything, i quite simply took out the old one and shoved the new one in
