Default Head Unit Swap

It seems that a 4 x 11w headunit is going to have to get ditched pretty quickly!

Has anyone found replacing the headunit to one that wont distort or clip so easily means that the stock speakers are more bearable?

I have a 4x40w panasonic minidisc headunit that should run the multichanger.

Anyone know if there are any compatability issues or are these things pretty standard?

Anywhere I can look to find out for certain?

Thanks Guys

I replaced my speakers first, so I've never run an aftermarket HU with the stock speakers - I'd be interested to know the answer to your question though...

The Skoda changer is Panasonic, but the Symphony HU isn't - so I'm not convinced using a Panasonic HU will work. Other members have asked specialists about compatibility, and told that it won't work,
so you might be looking at replacing the whole lot...

the pana h/u wont work...

alpine cda 9813 can be set up to drive the stock speakers perfectly as it has time alignment full crossover and equilisation...

but will sound better with replacement speakers...

components in the front 6x9 in shelf.. being the easiest way to big sound.....

and it lights up green!

So, its better to spend slightly more and get one that illuminated green? I thought it was all the rage to have it a different colour?

Surely if the changer is panasonic, a panasonic head unit will control it?

If it were that straightforward, how come a Blaupunkt/Grundig effort will work with it?

I don't know if anyone's ever tried a Panasonic HU with the changer - if you've got the HU anyway, it's well worth a try, if for no other reason than education!

I originaly checked about the changer and Skoda came back with three differnent types of changer, 1 x Panasonic and 2 x Clarion, all three are a right b@$tard to get working first time................

So, money on the credit card and Kenwood throughout, HU, Speakers, AMP and subwoofer changer. Took the guy all day to do the work, the maindealer gave him a wiring diagram as the std unit is hardcoded into the ECU, the new 6mm/8mm power cable comes in through the small hole under the brake servo and the changer and speaker cables run through the sill channel, watch you don't break the clips. With the vRS the AMP sits nicley behind the cage, subwoofer cabling is cut short and has connectors and the real sophisicated part is the subwoofer is held in place by a bungy strap. Can't remember the speaker size but I know the man down Halfords told us the best fit, ex-audio fitment man.

A little over the top, replacing all the bits but the sound quality is outstanding, it just seemed to much messing about.

RS has a Grundig HU with Blaupunkt type wire connector and a Panasonic changer.

If you can sort the connector out then the changer would probably work; if not, get a new changer.
