Default Insuring With LiverpoolVictoria

Bearing in mind next Tuesday's Jabba slot, I have literally just obtained a quote from LiverpoolVictoria for my 4X4. The premium quoted for Class 1 use, 2 drivers, protected NCD, £200 accident excess, £50 fire excess, £40 windscreen breakage excess is £378.75 - ie £86.77 more than I am currently paying with Norwich Union Direct. Now the interesting bit is that there would be no premium increase for chipping the car. I asked for confirmation of this twice, and was advised that the premium would only rise if the engine size were to be increased. Fitting a modified exhaust would not affect the premium either - only a change in engine size. Needless to say I was totally gobsmacked by this news, not least because the power increase involved would be around 50%!

Has anyone else experience of insuring a chipped car with LiverpoolVictoria? I do know that the company comes recommended by SEATCupra.net members. And does anyone know of any other insurance companies which do not load chipped cars?

Denis , I have just phoned Liverpool Victoria to retrieve my quote of a few weeks ago ,as my insurance is due on 3rd August .

The quote I received was £440 , then I told them about the BHP increase and I got the same answer as you - it makes no difference , was told that if I go ahead with the insurance all I have to do is keep the receipt for the remap .

I haven't yet received my renewal from my present insurers , DL , but I think it is going to be more than that , so I will probably be switching to Liverpool Victoria . Seems almost too good to be true

Thanks for that confirmation that I wasn't hearing things. The lady I spoke to was adamant that the premium would only change if there was a change in engine size. She specifically said that a modified exhaust, or a different turbo, would have no effect on premium, and did not want any details of the power increase a chip would give. I was likewise told to keep receipts.

Denis

So does the holiday with your wife begin next Monday at a quiet country B&B/Hotel, nicely located for a short hop over to Crowland on Tuesday morning ?

You really are talking yourself out of excuses now, Denis

It's amazing how easily-diesely flexible it feels now - changing up at exactly 3000rpm suits it if I'm not in the mood for dashing around, but still making 'respectable' progress.

That is actually a really good quote. Direct Line do not insure anyone under 25 who has modified a car in anyway.

Do Liverpool Victoria have an On-Line Quote facility -- I am waiting response from my current insurers(Churchill) as to how much they are going to fleece me when mine is Jabba'd.

So would like to check quotes -- policy due for renewal in Sept anyway.

Liverpool Victoria do have a online quote facility but it's very inaccurate, it's best that you phone them.

Anyone know if Liverpool & Victoria will cover you for track days as Barclays are I believe no longer going to offer them next year. I gather they are switching from their current underwriters to Norwich Union.

The thing I noticed about Liverpool Victoria quote website, is that part of the terms and conditions state that you can't have any performance enhancing modifications? How did they manage to state this and yet let you chaps go without charging extra? Will have to see what they say.

Slightly off track ....have just had a renewal notice from Sainsburys ..... the good news is only an increase of £3 ! .... usually after taking the bait the premium rockets at renewal .

However as you may well know the companies are now sharing databases with regards to our files .

This year's schedule stated that my wife had 12 points !!!!! ( the little hooligan only has 6 ... and er , there is also the little matter of the 3 points that she donated to me around my birthday ! )

Upon contacting the company it appeared that the computer printer said that but the screen said only 6 points !

When I asked whether there would be a reduction in the premium quoted , there was a loud noise of shuffling feet .

The moral of this tale is , do check everything when renewing your insurance .

Wouldn't your wife be banned if she had 12 points?

exactly !

Last year she applied to Sainsburys for insurance but was refused !

That is to say the system refused her even though the screen and operator could only see 6 points on her licence .

? where did this erroneous information come from for a new customer , who in the end did take up an insurance with them ?

Slightly off topic, but since it is my topic WTH! I phoned NU Direct just now to query the cost of continental cover - £21 to extend the cover to include 90 days in Europe in 6 months. I then mentioned that the company had previously said that it would not insure my car if chipped - and was immediately asked what I meant by that. We had a discussion about what sort of mod it was, and eventually agreed that it was a computer mod, and would be non-manufacturer fitted. The nice lady then confirmed what I already knew - no insurance cover. This led me on to ask how much premium would be refunded if I cancelled the policy tonight. However I was told it was impossible to give me that information until I had cancelled the policy, and the nice lady could help me no further. So what did I find out? NU Direct deal with customers from a UK call centre in the daytime - and in the evening use a call centre in (I would guess from the accent, lack of understanding of what I was talking about, and the quality of the phone line) India.

I think Norwich Union are in trouble. As well as giving the highest quotes we have ever recieved for insurance, they recently layed off a few workers here in Glasgow and other parts of the UK I think some may also have been call centre workers. 900 jobs go

That explains why I have in the past normally talked to ladies with nice Scottish accents when I call NU Direct. Using overseas call centres is a sort of dumbing down process - a bit like pressing button 1 on the phone then 3 then 5 etc to try and get sense in the first place. Meanwhile I will have to call NU Direct again tomorrow to get an answer to my query.

i think you are allowed 12. or 6 if you havent been passed a year.
also there are exceptiosn to this as well if the points are for speeding you may be able to get mnore.
its all very strange and complicated.
