Rear Speakers???

Does anyone know what the standard rear octavia speakers wattage is????

doesn't appear to be labelled on the speaker just the ohm rating I was wondering if anyone knew of a model of speaker that would give better performance and just drop straight in the place of the original rear speakers??????

Do a forum search (looking for Pioneer) - this has been comprehensively covered before (mainly by robmawer).

Pioneers seem to be the recommended route, but I have seen other mfrs mentioned.

4x45w! I'm sure my headunit isn't that powerful...at least, it doesn't sound it!

I've used Pioneer TS-G1313 (or something like that) rears, as they were cheap yet better than
standard. Most 13cm speakers will fit in place, and manufacturers seem to keep the resistances much
the same.
You don't really have to worry about power matching, as you're more likely to kill a speaker
by using an amp with low power than high power.

All irish octavia's are brought in with no stereo and they are fitted in ireland the standard being blaupunkt casablanca or modena(as fitted to mine) head units.

i have an ambiente tdi 90bhp bought last month. the car came without head unit but i bought a clarion which fitted without problems. only needed din to iso adapter for the aerial.

the problem is that I don't have any rear speakers fitted and not even the wiring is present at the head unit. (anybody has the same situation?)

In the rear doors there is a place to fit tweeters only I think (unlike front where there are also 16.5cm speakers - blaupunkt).

At the rear, there is a place to fit 13cm speakers on the edges on which the parcel shelf rests.

The questions are the following...
Does the ambiente come only with a two speaker configuration?
Any suggestions were is it most appropriate to prepare the wiring for the rear speakers and perhaps a small active subwoofer thrown in the boot?

Hmm...my Ambiente came with rear speakers fitted into the parcel shelf rests.
I'd imagine (from my 2 speaker Micra days), that the loom will have wires in it for the rear
somewhere - it's easier for them to wire all the cars the same in the factory!
But then I'm also surprised at the lack of wires at the headunit - seems strange. If you
really can't find the wires, then for the tidiest job you are looking at getting the wire
through the loom - not something I've ever done, but someone else on here might've!

For the active subwoofer - it's best to tackle the back speaker installation first, and worry
about a sub if this doesn't prove satisfactory!

thanks for your reply rob. i will double check for the rear speaker wiring. maybe the first time i installed the radio i was too in hurry to notice the wiring for the rears.

as for the rear door speakers, i assume they don't exist on the ambiente...

one thing i don't understand, and I excuse myself about it... but what exactly is a loom?

The rear door speakers on the Octavia are limited to the small tweeters near the electric
window switch. If you don't mind "damaging" the parcel shelf, the best solution is to put
some nice large speakers in this. If you want to keep it looking normal, then the side shelves
are a good compromise!

A loom in it's simplest form is a tube through which wires are passed - mainly just to keep things
tidy! I'm not too sure what form this loom takes on the Octavia though. If you follow the wires
from the back of the radio though, you'll find out easy enough!

I vut the parcel shelf and fitted a pair of 6x9 Pioneers in mine. Sound so much better than the didy little ones supplied.

I have a 99MY GLXi that came without rear speakers. I got my dealer to order the bits to fit them - I've got part numbers somewhere if anyones interested. Howerver it isn't a cheap route and the sound while better, is not as good as I'd hoped. The main cost is in labour - the dealer reckoned it took about 4 hours work to fit the wiring as all the trim had to come out. The installation itself is neat enough as the speakers fit into the trim beside the rear parcel shelf.

Any idea how much they charged you for them?

Quite surprised the wiring isn't already there for the rear speakers, as the cost of laying it
in the factory is negligible, and I've never come across a manufacturer who doesn't do it!
I suppose it allows for their dealers to charge for 4 hours labour though...

The rear speakers have a Skoda brand mark on them. I can't see any other manufactures name. The speakers were about £20 each. The wiring was £38 a side. I think this is expensive, and as you say, I would have thought the wiring could have been installed at the manufacturing stage, considering that the higher spec cars had the rear speakers as standard.

i have checked again to see if there is wiring present for the rears. i found none.

today i went to an audio car dealer from where i bought the head unit for some advice. he already knew that the octavia came without rear speakers fitted to the shelf and no tweeters in rear doors. it was no surprise for him because even the more luxurious passat comes in the same configuration, no rear speakers.

he suggested to put a pair of speakers with built in tweeter on the rear shelves and add a subwoofer in the boot. To buy seperate components (ie tweeter in door and woofer on shelf) would increase labout costs because he has to remove door panels to access the tweeters. I am not sure about what route to take (tweeter built in or in rear door).

I thought I would prepare all the wiring for the subwoofer (supply + line level input + trigger) and then add the subwoofer later if the sound is still not satisfactory.

With everything included sub+speakers+new harnesses+wiring+labour, the price would come approx 250 euro. the sub is clarion SRV202 and the speakers are clarion SRR1324. what do u ppl think about this offer ?
