Default Speaker Depth in a Fabia

Ok, I have a set of Alpine SPR-17LS components sitting in a box next to me. Mine if I want them. But I ask you this:

What is the deepest speaker someone has actually fit to the Fabia without having to cut any of the doorcard?

These speakers say its a 69.5mm Mounting depth. I'd love to have them in the car, but I refuse to do any door card modification. I know the tweeters will require some cutting and chopping to put them in the OM place, but I'm ok with that.

I've read the threads regarding this and it does say if it's more than 70mm it probably wont fit. So I'm just seeing how deep people have actually gone, so I might know if it'll fit before doing it.

Thanks!

No chance on the Alpines - sorry. I think you have 62mm to play with.

tfboy says "They're 65ish mm deep" about the speakers used in this thread:
http://www.briskoda.net/forums/t9647...with-pics.html

So I'm assuming the door went back on here? Which is a 65mm mounting. But if that needed cutting, or anyone had put in 60's and says theres no spare room then I'll give up. But if anyone's gone bigger and had the card fit back on properly then I'd like to know the depth - so I have something to work to when looking for speakers.

Cheers again.

You really need a few mm for the speaker excursion. I have fitted some speakers that are 62mm deep and the back of the magnet is a gnat's c**k away from the window rail and on very loud bass notes the speaker is just about touching the door card. You might be able to keep the door card further away by putting something solid behind......

I managed to put 68mm deep speakers in front doors, so 69,5 should be possible. You just have to put a ring-shaped spacer in the FRONT so that the cone doesn't hit the door trim And the trim will be poped out a bit.

In fact, a friend of mine and I managed to put an 80mm depth speakers in his Furby Don't ask how...I still have marks on my hands

Hmm, sounds like it could be worth a try then. As long as it doesn't look ugly being 'popped out'

Now just gotta convince SWMBO that she doesn't want the speakers in her car yet...

Yeah - I've seen that approach before. Doesn't look too bad.

Sorry to be annoying again, do you have any pics of your door card like this?
