Nokia? Don't know about that, even so I'm not a big fan of their stuff...

They're waxed paper cones, so going for aftermarket ones made of anything else (that speakers are usually made of!) will yield improvements. But I'd agree it's well worth trying things incrementally, as if you like the speakers with a new HU then there's no point having spent money on speakers...

Bloke in car HiFi place is clearly tone deaf or drunk, or a combination of the 2

As for trying them with a better HU, maybe it will work, but then again, he has nothing to lose does he. He flogs u a new HU, then 2 weeks later you come back for some decent speakers

Actually I have the HU so he was being surprisingly altruistic for a salesman.

Hi Jono,

Do yourself and your ears a favour and get some new speakers as the Skoda ones are sh**e!

There are a number of different aftermarket speakers to choose from and there are tons of threads on this site that may help you decide.I actualy replaced my speakers first and the HU followed on from that as I needed one with an AUX-in.I would have changed it through time anyway but becoming a proud Apple iPod owner brought things forward somewhat!

My speakers are:
Fronts: Pioneer TSE-1775
Rears: Sony A1326

The ICE supplier links from this site provide a good starting point for getting more for your money as Halfords and/or some local suppliers can charge more.

Best of luck..........................................
Hugh

I think its a long standing issue that octy standard speakers are rubbish, and the stock Skoda speakers are actually quite OK.... I know mine are, but I still fancy changing them, for some reason...

yup, the standard speakers are deffinately a big pile of old mans pants. Any frequencies below about 80HZ induce a highly unpleasant farting niose from the cones as the voice coils overload even a low levels and flat eq.

Take them out and clense them with fire !!!!!!

Or do the old horizontal flap in the plastic door membrane trick.
I would say that improved things 20% and fitting some Infinity's from Halfords another 30%

I found that the black plastic bin liner membrane trick improved my standard speakers by about 100%

I'll give my stock speakers a good hammering at the National to see what people make of them. A bit of DJ Brisk at volume 25+ should give them a good test. If necessary, then I'll get some Pioneers fitted, or something similar. I'm still after something additional though, sub-like perhaps?

The Fabia and Superb have better speaker mountings, so you might find the speakers cope a lot better than in the Octavia. No need to get Pioneer's fitted anyway, you'll be able to do it yourself...

A sub, eh? Well, if you're taking out your back seats anyway, how about getting a Clarion 32" sub in there instead? That'll give you something additional...

Unhappy ****.......Talk Out Of

Me thinks matey is either totally deaf or full of B.S.

The first car that I ever bought was a Talbot Samba back in 1988.

I can tell you the speakers in that were better than my Octy.

Take my advice, take a screwdriver, take out and put in box in loft. Then take money and buy new ones, fit sub, amp and then go YEEEEHHHHHH BABBEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!

That is my final answer Chris......
