Default Talex and speed

Ive noticed that the speed display on my Talex is 3 to 4 miles slower than the cars speedometer

Is the speed talex reports exact due to being via satelite or is my speedo correct and the talex is out?

Anyone else have conflicting speeds?

Yup thatll be the accuracy of the GPS compared to the 'indication' of a speedo, quite normal.

So the next time saxo boy comes along and tells you he can do 130mph you know you can take a good 10% of salt

Yup, the Talex speep is calculated via GPS and is far more accurate than the speedo reading. You would think that manufacturers could and should make a speedo that gives you correct indication of speed!, although I'm not sure if there are laws which prevent this?.

Manufacturers tend to go for the overread as if they underread they'd be enjoying a lot of compensation claims from those who've had a 'moment' with the law enforcement community

aka Joe Bloggs gets nicked for speeding and claims he wasn't, looses & then goes after manufacturer for compensation as the speedo was wrong.

Might well be a law that underreading isnt allowed, overread is allowed

There is.
Construction and use regulations allow up to 10% overreading but no underreading.
To be spot on every time would be expensive so manufacturers aim for the middle and most cars are about 5% optimistic.

The manufacturers also don't mind people thinking that their cars perform a bit better than they expected.

Assuming the GPS can see at least 4 satellites, its speed will be an accurate representation of the speed you were doing about a second ago. Some GPSes display speed as a rolling average over 5 seconds.
