Flood

Recommended Posts

I have just had a flood inside my car!!!

Was driving along and water started gushing out from what appeared to be under the glove compartment for a good 15mins like a waterfall.

Stopped the car and lifted the bonet checked the water level was ok and was fine so thought it must be raining in.

Apparently in the top right hand corner of the bonet there is a hole where some wiring runs through into the car and it seems the plug thats sits in there has gone so when the rain goes down the windscreen it is going into the car.

It must have been storing it up though as the amount of water that came out could not just be from todays rain.

The worrying thing is when checking where the water was coming from it was coming through a part just to the right of the glove box but I have no idea what this part is. It had a black plastic cover on and inside that what seems like polystyrene any ideas?

I am just worried incase it has any electricals in as it must be soaking wet as all the water came through that.

I have put a load of cloth in the corner of the bonet best I can as the hole is a bit tricky to get to which will hopefully work as a temporary measure until I can get the real part and get it fitted in right as the black trim at the bottom of the windscreen will have to come off for me to get to it.

Car seems to be ok though start ok, drives well so doesn't seemed to have effected it yet. Just a bit of a soggy floor as the passenger side was over an inch underwater.

Just hope the electric don't blow up!!!

Sounds like your looking at the pollen filter maybe under the glovebox???

The caroet needs to be dried out, wet vac works the best. As long as you dont have side airbags you should be ok.

Yes it's underneath the glove box to the right so it's between the base of the glove box and the central column.

It's like a long narrow rectangle.

Think my poor nan is still at home drying her feet

I would check port and starboard plenum chamber drains first, I would say that they are prolly blocked (and it costs nowt)

I have no idea what they are but will tell the garage it's another thing to add onto my ever growing warranty repair list.

They will be totally rebuilding your car at this rate , Fabia 1.4 , when you get it back you'll have to put an 07 plate on it! lol

They sure will don't have much luck with cars everyone I seem to get seems to be jinxed.

Where do I find these chamber things that I need to look at.

It happened again this morning on the way to work so turned round went to the garage got a courtasy car and told them I don't want to see it again until everything is sorted.

It gets even worse when you turn the air blowers on as air starts coming out of the (what we thought was the pollen filter) so the water comes out even quicker.

Yep this is a Classic fault I had this in my Audi A4.

its the water from windscreen and roof drains through behind the bulkhead and normally comes out of two holes, with rubber flaps infront of them.

the trouble is leafs and crud fall down and block these drain points.

when this happens a few litres of water can collect.

and when you go round a corner it comes in via the fan intake.

very easy to fix and keep an eye on as well

just lift the rubber flap and put your finger in and pull the crud out.

also might be worth flushing with a hose

once fixed try not to park under trees.

Garage just rung they say they have fixed it and said it was something around the heater matrix? but the guy I spoke to wasn't sure as he wasn't the guy that had been dealing with it.

We shall see with the current weather I will soon find out again.

I pressume thats the hole where the wiring goes in right in the top right hand corner of the bonet underneath the windscreen? If so I have no rubber flaps there or am I looking in the wrong place

might be easier to see if you took the engine cover off.

they are not the ones with any wires comming out of

I must admit it took me a while to find them the first time.

some one might have some pics,

this would be a good one to do as a fabia tech gide.

hope the garage has sorted it.

put your air con on this will dry things out even with heat on as it acts dehumidifier.

Pics would be great

I will put my blowers on try and dry it out that tells me if its fixed or not as well as thats where all the water came flying out of.

  • 3 years later...

Cheers I saw that on the other thread will have a look tonight and see if I can manage to find them.

Typical it didn't rain last night so couldn't tell if it's fixed or not.

I am having the same problem at the moment with my Fabia 1.4 Classic — I had a lovely pond build up driving to work today. Using the picture I tried to find the drains last night but couldn't locate them. Can anyone give me a clear description of what I am feeling for and where exactly in the back panelling (I assume) they are. Every time it rains, it floods. I live in Scotland so that is a lot.

Add it to the list of problems at the moment including the engine warning light switching on and off when it takes its fancy and my air conditioning and temperature gauge playing up. All in all not a happy chappy.

The best way to clear it out is to remove the wiper arms and the 3 clips holding the scuttle panel on (you will need new clips) and to clear out all the leaves and junk in there, which is what prevents the water draining out naturally. There are supposed to be drains in the approximate location of those arrows but I could never find them either.

You'll need to take the seat out to get the underfelt out to dry it out properly - vacuuming WILL NOT WORK!

I'll write up my experience shortly...

I don't know if I am experienced enough to do the arms and clips procedure. I was kind of relying on finding the drains but I have put my hand around the back of the engine compartment and can't find anything. Going to try in broad daylight and when it is not bitterly cold.

It's quite easy, although you'll need a windscreen wiper "puller" tool (available from Machine Mart, etc) to get them off. The clips are a pain to remove without breaking them, so just cut through them, as they're only pennies.

I also tried to find these alleged drain holes and spent ages looking in the back of the engine bay with no success. A closer picture of where the drain holes are located would be really appreciated here as well, I don't have the time or inclination to go pulling off the plenum chamber at the moment, when lifting a flap could do the same job. I wonder if these flaps are only on early models or something?

I've had the same problem, I had standing water in the front and rear passenger side of my car after heavy rain. Bailed it out, lifted the carpets and the underlay and baled that out as well - I must have removed well over a gallon of water from the car.

The car is drying out slowly, I'm driving round with no front passenger seat at the moment and lift the carpet and underlay regularly to help the underlay dry out. I haven't had time to take out all the seats and the centre console to remove the carpets and underlay properly.

I couldn't find the drain channels under the bonnet either, I took mine into the Skoda dealer and they cleaned them out free of charge - thumbs up to Royce Roberts in Hull for that.
