Mileage wont be a problem if your disciplined, I went to france with 15 other cars a few weekends ago, we left Friday 3pm, back home Monday 7pm, 1940 miles & had a great time with loads of time for socialising & drinking Anyone whos driven on the Continent will tell you that driving is so easy as long as you avoid Holiday time etc, Cities are like cities anywhere but certainly no worse than the UK. On the Motorways you can cruise at 80 legally & 90 - 100 dosent attract too much attention, if caught at that speed the fines arent too bad. If you drive at high speed you knock the MPG & have to refuel more, its suprising how much distance you can cover whilst others are refuelling, On the Cannonballs a lot of the Exotics could only do 200 miles between refuelling so whilst they went like the preverbial they were for ever filling up As I said you just need to be disciplined, fuel the cars just before you stop for the night, leave on time in the morning, dont try & stick together, run ideally in groups of 2 or 3, 10-15 cars trying to stay together, especially through towns is a no no, 10-15 cars refuelling at the same garage with all the chit chat can take an hour. Also big groups attract the Police. If someone has a problem dont all stay to help, it only needs a couple at most. If the whole group stops everytime something happens it just adds hours to the trip. Whoever goes make sure you are totally self sufficent, prep the car properly before you go, preferably a full service 3-4 weeks before, time to fix anything they find & time to find anything they fooked up on the service. All people need to know is where they need to be in the evening, a suggested route & "possibly" a suggested town to stop for lunch. ALWAYS get a decent recovery insurance & read the small print, make sure it includes a hire car, make sure you can take the car from country to country, some of the cheaper ones only allow a flight home, some only give a car for up to 3 days. The Skoda one through the AA only gave 3 days hire & you had to pay the rest. I did the P****D off customer bit to Skoda UK when the Superb broke & they paid the rest. The RAC one now used might be better but I doubt it. With all Governments appearing to be anti car it wont be many years before trips like this cant be done & Im guessing only a couple of years before points can be awarded for motoring offences comitted on the Continent so if your thinking about it dont leave it too long. Ive done 4 Cannonballs, 2 Furballs & will do the Furball again next year, its probably going to be September so it precludes me from joining you but Im happy to give advice any time.

| No using the Mt. Blanc Tunnel, col des Montets, col de la Forclaz. Slightly shorter and we get to go through a big tunnel ![]()
