Nope - LPG on a diesel is a piece of pi.... cake once you have the right gear. and it is the LPG, not my suspension which is stopping me from going on chunnel. Apparently something to do with pressure drops, and exploding tanks.

My doubt with suspension is how stiff it is, and how rough the course is. From what Manny said the track is kind to tyres, so I should hope it will be fairly kind to my coilovers too.

It nothing to do with pressure drops etc.

when the tunnel was opened and certified there we're only 4000 LPG cars on British roads so it was decieded that it wouldn't be necessary to have the half million pound test to certify LPG for travel on the tunnel, huge test in the testing tunnel.

There is talk of the test going ahead soon as LPG use in on the increase in this country and it is also very wildly used in various countries in Europe.

And LPG on a Diesel engine gives huge gains in power,up to 60% maybe more if i remember correctly.

The LPG helps the diesel to burn better so releasing more energy from it hence more power.

Thats why I'm looking forward to having it, Its about 25% they claim in increased bhp/torque, which if fully realised for me = 275bhp/450 lb/ft. I can't see it doing that, but I'd be happy with 250hp/400 lb/ft.

Thanks for the chunnel info. Think I'll be using speedferries.

All

I can't make this trip as I went in March and am going at the end of this month and again in October.

A couple of points though -

Norfolkline ferries from Calais to Dunkerque are the cheapest crossing and drop you further up the coast towards the Ring (crossing is slightly longer though).

If you plan to go the Eupen route, the road after Eupen is up for miles and will severely slow your journey down and possibly damage your cars. I'd be suprised if this is fixed by Aug/Sept. Best route by car is - E40 Brussells/E40/E40 Leige/then head Spa/St Vith/Gerolstein/Kelberg/Ring

Also

Cochem is not too far from the Ring (15-20 miles approx) and is on the Mosel and a really nice place to stay. Very scenic, good restaurants/hotels/bars. Added bonus is the drive there....it's like the Ring all over again.

On the road to Cochem is a hotel called - www.hotel-wilhelmshoehe.de - I have stayed here and recommend it. Good food/hosts/beer, but a bit isolated, added bonus is that the owners are an english/german couple.

Thanks Lance. I've taken the liberty of emailing them to enquire about reservations. I ignored Norfolkline as I thought it left from Norfolk....

Shall enquire about them too then.

£49 for trip to Dunkerque. Would I be right in saying this isn't far from the main road from Calais into Belgium? Looks spot on to me and they sail every 2 hours too. I'll be using this method, thanks.

Devon

It's about 25-30 miles up the coast (the right way) from Calais, on the usual Calais/Ring route. The Autoroute is about 3-5 miles from the port.

Hmmm, may bring the SDI out, just fro a laugh.

Failing that, fly to Cologne and rent a smart roadster for 140 Euros for the w/e (including CDW).

Give you a good spanking with that Jason

If you come out, you may need to take me out in my own car to give me a true ring lap.... I doubt even in ten laps i'll pluck up courage to really and truly go for it. I find it hard to push the limits, ever since the "you know what" in North Wales.

Or, if I can twist a certain person's arm, I'll give you a lap in a stripped and caged 911 RS on road legal "slicks", failing that, how about a 911 GT3? If my mate is there I'll see what I can do

Last passenger I took out couldn't actually undo his helmet strap after 5 minutes (the second time this has happened). Must have been the way his RUF 911 had been driven that did it Well, after 2 laps of "gentle" he asked me to do a quick lap - thought he was going to wet himself! It was just the way he said "my body doesn't work anymore" when I had to unstrap him and help him get his helmet of

Well - I'm hoping with plenty of GT4 action on the ring I'll be a lot more confident come August, but given the opportunity to get a ride round in a 911.....? You better put your hands away else they'll get bitten off!

Right i have lots of links which Manny has kindly forwarded to me.

I guess it will be easy if people decide where they want to stay and we can all meet at the Ring during the day.

If we could all stay in the same hotels that would be great but i think it will be a bit of a nightmare to co-ordinate.

What are your views on this everyone who's interested in joining this excursion to motoring nirvana!!!!!

I stayed at the Pension Zimmer last time. Basic but clean and cheap.

You will have to translate. Very nice lady runs it.

Hope that helps.

I would rather be somewhere where at least a.n.other briskodian is nearby. Just have the feeling (knowing me) I'd find myself with a place to stay or end up driving to Poland....

If anyone finds anywhere with enough space, I'm not fussy - just a single bed and a TV and some tuck in the morning will suit me fine.
