| Hello forumites... New member here, doing a bit of research after deciding that Skoda is the way to go for my next car! I'll be posting in the Octy and maybe the Superb threads too, but if anyone has any general advice feel free to throw it at me! I'm going to be spending £3000 - £4000, and expect a high miler in good condition - obviously, a low-budget budget buys a low-budget car, so I don't want miracles! I'm going to be travelling around 450 miles per week, of which 90% will be motorway miles. For this reason, fuel economy and comfort are top of the agenda. I'm not too hung-up on performance, and I'm not looking to win any races - but I would like to have enough 'oomph' to be able to accelerate when going uphill on the motorway with passengers! So far, I have decided on a 1.9TDi Octavia - however, I haven't researched prices and availability, so I might well be having a laugh - what do you think? I also like the extra size and spec of the Superb range, but I don't think they will fall into my budget. I have read a couple of reports of Octys being noisy on the motorways - any opinions? Oh I'm sorry - I've bloated my 'Hello' thread with a load of questions now!!!! Mark |

| Hello Mark and welcome. Given your budget you will be looking at the earlier end of the market but there are some. I found this on autotrader which may need some attention but seems lots cheaper then most - 2001 51 SKODA Octavia 1.9 TDi Ambiente Cost Less Cars

| Hello Mark I'm a newbie too. Just recently returned to Skodas, having driven two Octavias in the past. Now in a 1.9 TDI 110 Elegance Auto Estate and really pleased with its performance and economy. Had a surprise yesterday though, when I returned to my parked (& locked car), to find all the windows wide open!! Didn't realise that the remote key button will open all the windows if you keep it depressed within 45 secs of deactivating the alarm. I know now! Fortunately it hadn't rained for an hour or my seats would have been drenched. Nothing nicked either - phew! Good luck hunting for the right car. Bikergirl |
