Exclamation First post - 185bhp Fabia VRS !!

Hi

I found briskoda.net frantically searching for info on Fabia VRS mods.

I have a chipped 185bhp Fabia VRS on deposit at a main dealer.....pending insurance quotes. Just over a year old, 16k miles and they "claim" they did not know it was "chipped" when they bought it in

I set off on a test drive when the salesman told me it was 185bhp, imagine the smile as I left the slip road to the M1....

Its been on the forecourt for 5 or 6 weeks and I wonder why it has not sold sooner... now I might know why

My insurance company More Than, will not insure a car that has any mods, however they do quote £260 for the 130bhp, fully comp.

It looks like I am going to pass on this one - I have read about Limelight insurance etc but I am windy and will probably stick with the standard VRS

Thanks for reading my first post.

Philip

Hello and welcome.

You'll find us a fiendly bunch and very helpful. For your wind problem may suggest Deflatin (spelling?) works for me.

Welcome.

Poses an interesting question re the warranty which may put you in a good position.

If they are selling it having known it was remapped, enough to tell you it's 185bhp (Which tells me they may know more then they are letting on) then it should come with a Skoda used car warranty. Make sure you have it written somewhere on the invoice. that they sold it to you mapped.

I hope you buy it and enjoy it.

Welcome Philip.

You may want to give Chris Knott a call. They are broking for/insuring modified cars.

Or Adrian Flux insurance... I'm with them and they love insuring modified cars.

Thumbs up Thanks for your welcome posts

Thanks for your welcome posts - much appreciated.

Still on the case re the 185bhp, will let you know how I get on.

I tried Limelight and Skoda insurance...Skoda would only quote 3rd party, and Limelight said in a Leeds LS postcode, one claim in the last year ( my Corsa keyed in town ) prevented them quoting? Odd.

A 130bhp Vrs with MoreThan fully comp is only £260!

As a laugh, the dealer suggested restoring the car to normal spec, and when I asked what he would therefore reduce the price to he offered a £0 discount

I am probably better at 130bhp for now.... but not that one

Welcome Phile

If you really liked the chipped car and are thinking about getting a fabia vrs but not sure about that one, have you actually driven a non-chipped one? You may find the difference quite surprising and the extra enjoyment from the quicker one would make it worthwhile investigating the insurance and warranty a bit more

Also, it's worth really pushing the Skoda garage hard to get the warranty in writing and make sure they mention it's 185bhp or whatever just in case anything should go wrong with the car (not that it would) and Skoda say it's been modified so it's not being covered. If the garage offers a warranty that only works at their premises, I'd be wary if ever the service manager were to change You don't want any nasty surprises.

Don't let my drivel put you off, they're great cars and very reliable even when modified (I should know )

Welcome

If you REALLY want the car, keep doing the homework. ( tho having driven it @ current BHP would you really want it un mapped)

Good luck with what ever you decide

Default Got my Fabia

I bought a new Fabia VRS from Rainworth Motors - a Skoda dealer in Mansfield.

Brilliant car, glad I did not bother with the s/h remap - can always do that at a later date.

Just as good was the service from Rainworth - I have posted a review of them - 10/10.

Thanks for your help above.

Cheers, Philip

I have to agree with your hesitation on buying a remaped one Phil. They are all still relatively new so anyhting thats going to prevent or at least hinder badly any warranty work is going to be a bad thing. Its one reason i wanted to buy an unmodified one, and then maybe in afew years time then think about fiddling with it.

As i've now realised mine was modded its going to be very difficult to claim anything under warranty and put it down to manufacturer error. Interestingly the dealer never stated it had been modded at all shifting all the costs onto me if things go wrong.

Thats assuming you know it's been modded . Stick to your guns mate.

IIRC yours is Superchips isn't it so Superchips could no doubt provide you with a date of modification and thus absolve you of all responsibility.

Question Because ....the dealer said so.

The dealer, DM Keith, said so... however they claim to have bought it in unknowing of the remap - and it was all to my advantage apparently. They insisted that it was a Skoda approved mod -

All I did was keep passing the garage and thought look at that lovely YELLOW VRS Fabia! I did not know about these mod things until I did some research.

Now having got a new standard VRS I realise why I pooped myself when I floored the remap........did the same tryng to find insurance.

Anyway I am more than happy with mine, running in gently and my Turbo whistles like a bird It only cost me £500 more new @ Rainworth than the used 18k
