Hello from another Octy PD140 owner

Hi All,

Just stumbled across the site and thought I would say hello, be rude not to.

I am Tony from Cambridge. I have a 54 plate new octavia 2.0 TDI, 40k miles, currently completely standard, with quite a few optional extras. I have had a few problems with her; Heated seat elements went (2 months for replacements to come), battery dead, cruise control stalk stopped working, a door speaker started farting, bonnet release handle fell apart, and now the auto wipers are mis-behaving, all problems have been sorted on warenty without question from my local dealer. I am still very happy with the car, considering swapping for an estate as my puppy is getting a little big for the boot of the hatch.

I also have a Toyota Celica GT4 track car, running 400bhp for now. Totally maintained, built, raced, and mapped by myself.

I am thinking about getting into diesel tuning, and octavia maintenance, myself now that the warenty is soon to expire. This is how I came to look for a Skoda forum, and this looks the most active of all that I found. Good job on the forum, and great job by the members in seaming friendly, helpful, and constructive.

I will spend a little time trawling though old posts, please feel free to point me at diesel tuning resources or specifics on my model in the mean time, and then there will be lots to questions to come. Hopefully I will be useful in return.

Re: Hello from another Octy PD140 owner

Thanks for the welcome guys.

I have been having a nose around. I never knew about the Satnav option radio, and the new one looks schweet!

Nice to see the VAG-COM although I have not quite worked out its possibilities yet. How do people remap these ECUs? Is it a chip change, or is there software available to access and edit the maps/functions?

Cheers,

Tony

Welcome Tony.

Mapping the Octy II might be a little different to the Celica as it uses CAN to communicate.

The equipment is probably slightly too expensive to make it worth buying for the hobbyist when there are plenty of people willing to help you out.

Most tuning is done via OBD.

Yeah the Celica ECU is not mappaable at all. So I had to fit a full DTA S60 Pro Race ECU, which will be needed for my 600+ ponies in the pipeline, and is very feature rich. If I can completely rewire and map the Celica then I would hope with modern standards a little tweaking would be much easier with the VAG range.

So what do I need to map the OctyII TDi ECU? A Coms cable for the CAN. But what software is available? If non is available where cn I find more information on the CAN protocol?
What do the tuning firms use?

Tony
