| Hello all! I currently own a Ford Focus 1.6 Zetec and noticed that many Focus owners on FFOC.CO.UK are moving up to the Octavia vRS rather than going for a Mondeo. I find myself in the situation where sooner or later i am going to need a larger car as i have two kids and need more space! As i really don't want to buy a people carrier, and i like the handling and general mix of sportiness and practicality which the Focus has, i think the move up to an equivalent Mondeo will be rather expensive (i was thinking Zetec S TDCi or ST TDCi). My dad also had a Mondeo Ghia X and it depreciated like a brick in water. So i will spend some time reading the forum and hope you can help me with any questions i have regarding the purchase of an Octavia vRS. All the best Steve |

| Welcome to Briskoda. The best advice I can give is to have a test drive in an Octavia vRS - but are we talking new or old model?

| Thanks for the prompt reply. I wonder if anybody here knows the name of the Skoda dealership in Watford? it used to be Brookdene but it has changed hands and i can't find out who owns it now. Google isn't being my friend either! I am in the motor trade and did my apprenticeship at DW Cawdell Skoda which stopped trading when VW took over the reigns. Oh the joys of the Estelle and Rapid, those were the days, changing clutches by removing the engine which took 1 hour, countless head gaskets and overheating but they used to start and run happily in all weathers! When did the Octavia change and does the vRS feature in the older model line up? Sorry for all the questions, which i can probably find answers to on this forum... |

| In all fairness, my Focus is a brilliant car in all areas and (touches wood) has never faultered in three years of ownership (not from new) I now have two baby seats in the back which turns it into a two seater now and could do with more space. I'll freely admit that the quality of plastics could be a little better in the Focus but i can carry my kids and drive normally or i can dump the kids and the missus and have a little fun when needed. The 1.6 engine isn't bad at all and has been rolling roaded at 113 bhp 119 lbs/ft which is more than book (100bhp). But the time has come to move on up and i must admit to not even thinking about owning a Skoda until a trade friend of mine took me out in his Fabia vRS and having been breathed on, it flies! Even another friend of mine who owns a near enough new Golf GTi was impressed by it... |
