New poster, new (very apprehensive) owner

Hello to all,
I've just purchased my first Skoda and the way I'm feeling at the moment it may well be my last! It's a 1999 1.9tdi 90bhp Octavia estate with 95k on the clock. It's got a full service history until 80k but has been standing for the past 15 months!
At the minute I'm having problems with the tailgate, it won't unlock and the courtesy lights in the boot space are permanently lit. The rear windows don't work, probably the regulators at fault as the motors seem to operate when the buttons are pressed. It seems to drive well enough but is obviously ready for a service as it doesn't pull quite as well as I'd hoped. I've already found lots of useful advice on this forum and judging by how things are going will probably be making frequent use of it in the future! I just wish I'd known about this site before I bought the bloody thing! Anyway enough moaning for now, perhaps everything will turn out all right in the end. I could always scrap it I suppose

well if its been standing for 15 months and not serviced for 15k miles before that then i would guess that an oil change would not be out of order

Think you may be right on that one . It's the electrical problems that worry me the most if I'm honest.

Hi. I can't help with the electrics, but this thread might help you with the boot lock. Not sure though as everything in this refers to a Felicia I think rather than a vRS. Might be worth a quick browse though, as the light thingy might be easier to fix if you can get at it of course.

Good luck
Mo

PS: Welcome

Re: New poster, new (very apprehensive) owner

For the boot lock and window regulators:

cars dismantled by skospares.com for all your skospares

may be your friend.

The lights staying on in the boot mean that the microswitch in the boot lock has possibly gone. This means they don't go off and the boot won't lock as it thinks it is open.

Definitely do an oil change and while you are at it put a new air filter in. They are not good for the claimed 40k miles IMHO. If the engine still doesn't pull how you want drop a new MAF in there (About £65 from GSF) and plenty of guides and info on here.

Welcome to Briskoda!!!

If its been standing over a year I'd say it prob needs a dose of injector cleaner and the locks lubing probably.

Electric faults seem to be more common thse days as they come laden with more gadgets.

Octavias seem pretty reliable though. Hope it all works out and a good service prob wouldn't go amiss

Re: New poster, new (very apprehensive) owner

Cheers for the welcome people and also for the advice already posted for my problems. With regards to tailgate problem I've crawled into the boot space and found the orange lever but it appears to be deadlocked as it won't budge either way! I've disconnected the courtesy lights in the boot to stop it deadening the battery. Anymore ideas would be gratefully received.
