Question Octavia v Superb

Hello everyone out there, i've just discovered this site, mainly due to the fact that i'm looking to trade my 2005 1.9Tdi Classic and i was looking for info about the Superb. Is it worth trading up to a Superb or should i stick with the Octavia and go for a higher spec, and if so what spec? i was looking for something with A/C and a few other standard extras, anyone out there got some experience/advice on all the above or even an idea what not to get, thanks and happy driving

Depends what your after really.

If you want more toys and a bigger car, then yes go for the superb. But if you do, don't buy the 2.0TDI as the particulate filter they retro fitted to that engine in the superb cause's all sorts of issues.

Welcome to Briskoda.

All depends what you want, Superb is a different beast to the Octavia ...basic Superb is about the equivalent of an elegance Octy in terms of spec and toys but although the Octy is wider the superb is a lot longer and parking or small roads can become a challenge at times, If you are after space and a distance eater on motorways the superb is it, the Octy is more "normal" but a 6 foot driver and a full load of adults can become a little tight....octy pd130 up to 60 mpg .......superb pd130 up to 52 mpg.
have had three octys sdi, elegance pd130, and a Vrs now on a Superb pd130 classic and thoroughly enjoying it

To a certain extent octy 2 as adressed the space issue in the rear, i am slightly over 6' and an average person can sit behind no problems, however a tall rear passenger might find the rear seat back a little shallow/short. One major differance is can you manage with a boot rather than a hatch? Would have loved a top spec superb myself but settled for an octy because of the dog

Thanks for all the advice, i'm trying to do all my homework in one go on this one, I seem to be coming down in favour of upgrading to the Octavia Elegance as a compromise it's hard go back to the boot from the comfort of the hatchback and also i live on some small country roads so her indoors might have problems when i let her drive it (joke, it's really her car).Anyone care to outline the pros/cons for petrol/diesel on the elegance, i know this is an old chestnut, but we're only doing 18,000 kms/11,000m per year so which should i be going for, i like the diesel but is it best to stay with diesel or should i consider petrol?

Stick with the diesel ..more reliable, serviceing costs about the same, better resale value, more mpg, I think the insurance is less, road tax is less.

Just a thought the Octy is wider than the Superb
Also seats fold down on later Superbs

i'm back and i've done the deal, Black Octy Elegance €25K,(£16,439 GBP),irish spec gives A/C, Aux point,Sunglass holder overhead and alloys, other than that its a classic, the upholstery is black with Leatherette type covering on the handbrake and steering, having driven it 80Kms it seems to me that the suspension has been firmed up as well. I noticed that fuel consumption was higher than normal for first 40 Kms but then it regulated to normal, anyone care to suggest some improvements kit wise that dont cost an arm and a leg, and wheres the best place to source them?
