Default Remap!

I'm new to all this so please be gentle

I take delivery of a new fabia vrs in a week or two and have been having a good look at this site and obviously after seeing the performance increase I'm going to get my car remapped

My thoughts are, why can i not do this myself why do i have to pay someone anything up to 800 quid to remap my car when surely all 2005 fabia vrs's have the same remap

can i not download a remap from another fabia vrs and upload to mine using an obd2 cable and some relevant software or obtain the remap from the internet or even do it manually by comparing parameters on a mapped vrs ECU to mine and making alterations.

If I'm being a little to thick please point out the obvious, cheers

Doing what you suggest, even if it were possible, is called software theft. A remap costs a fraction of what a new Fabia vRS costs but even so involves time, equipment, expertise and money to develop.

A lot more than the cost of a remap I can tell you, you should see what these maps look like on a screen.

DIMSPORT sell the tuning equipment Jabbasport and a couple of other tuners use. Have a look at their site here.

Mike

If you have the Tech ability to read the ECU, and know what all the field codes control with the ECU AND know which codes to change, by how much (without damaging the engine when it is returned to the car).
Then you probably work for someone like Jabba/Revo/AMD etc.

Despite the fact, as you point out, the ECU's have the same map, the reality is different, mechanicals of the cars seem to play a part in what the car pushes out BHP/Torque wise.
There have been 2 owners recently who posted about their Jabba remap, they have different outputs despite them being Furby vRS's. IIRC 1 is 195BHP the other is 191(poss 193) BHP ( the owner will correct me i'm sure )
Even in std format without remaps the cars vary.
Also the owners also take a chance that it will not do any damage, that would cause a warranty problem ( thoss who think about doing it in warranty )

I'm not trying to talk you out of it , just pointing out that there is specific Knowledge required to do this, and the risk involved.

Steve

I think EcuTek products are specific to the Subaru and Mitsubushi and the software is only sold to commercial tuning companies.

yeah i got the subaru and evo bit to, what they offer the consumer is extra capability to make alterations via a gui after the retune which i thought was cool, I dont think i'll be attempting this i think the oneclick is for me. On the other hand i could attempt to reck my new car!

APR offers V-Tune software which allows certain engine (ECU) settings to be adjusted. Have a look here.

SPS3 from REVO also allows a certain amount of adjustability.

Hypothetically then if you know some of the codes for your car, to create a small gui to make alterations yourself would be simple and you can even add your car to your wireless network if you fork out a bit of cash, presumably things like switching the passenger airbag off or giving you a bit more rev range etc would be as simple as pressing a button on your pc or palmtop, further alterations to adjust performance could possibly be done on the road. All you would need to know is the code!

VAG-COM software allows access to the various controllers in the car. As an example, my 4X4 has controllers (ECUs) for Engine, ABS brakes, Auto HVAC (Climatronic), Airbags, Instruments, CAN Gateway, AWD (Haldex LSC), Immobilizer, Central Convenience and Radio. The Fabia has more and Octavia II has up to 21 (I believe). Some settings can be changed using that software but detailed codes are in the official workshop manuals and you would need to buy the whole lot to get access to all the codes. This would be a rather expensive exercise.
